Noble Rot Wine Bar

About

Our restaurant features Chefs Stephen Harris and Paul Weaver from the Michelin-starred The Sportsman in Whitstable with an amazing wine list.

Story

Located on Bloomsbury’s historic Lambs Conduit Street, Noble Rot Restaurant & Wine Bar has been a wine bar since 1973, and was originally built in 1700. Chefs Stephen Harris and Paul Weaver from the Michelin-starred The Sportsman in Whitstable oversee a menu of fine Harris-style cooking; expect to find oysters, cold cuts, bread and olives in the front bar, with an expanded restaurant menu in the back. The wine list ranges from deliciously undervalued wines by the glass to hard-to-find gems from the worlds leading winemakers; expect to find mature bottles from legendary domaines like Jean-Louis Chave, Armand Rousseau, Château Latour, Château Rayas and Domaine Tempier at reasonable prices.

We’re thrilled to have found what we think is the perfect spot to showcase the spirit of Noble Rot Magazine in one of central Londons most attractive, independent shop-lined streets, and we hope to welcome you to our new home soon. We take reservations for the restaurant online and by phone, whilst tables in the front bar section are allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

Had a really lovely lunch here- service was impeccable, our waitress was really good at recommending wines and pairing with our food choices. The atmosphere is very moody, probably more suited for a dinner rather than a lunch. The wine list is extensive! Possibly overwhelming but as someone who has an interest in wines it was like heaven to me. The food was delicious and a good combination of filling but still light and flavourful.
Finally made it to their lamb’s conduit restaurant and it did not disappoint. Again their set lunch menu is outrageously good value. We booked on the day and got an early slot. Very friendly and welcoming service and we weren’t rushed at all. Went for all the wine pairings and dessert of the day. Next time I would prefer to sit at the front of the restaurant, as the back main restaurant is very dark, but still beautiful and ambient. Food was 10/10. Highly recommend visiting.
Literally the best by the glass wine list in the world! This place is incredible for wine lovers. The food pairs perfectly with 5 star wine. Freddy was so friendly, knowledgeable and personable despite working a busy service. I love this place so much, thank you for creating such an institution!!!! Food: 5/5
This place is a real treat - the atmosphere was chilled, the staff were knowledgeable about the wines and made excellent recommendations, and the food was great. Compared even to other wine bars there is a great range of wines by the glass so we were able to try multiple wines without having to compromise! My only complaint is that the food felt just a touch on the expensive side, but it was still very good.
The bread basket was delicious, especially the soda bread. The main Cornish turbot with alsace bacon was pretty good but honestly it’s pretty pricey for £42. Good selection of wine. Dessert was disappointing.Food: 3/5
My current favourite restaurant in London. Extensive list of amazing wines mainly old world alongside a great bistro style menu. Food-wise it ranges from good to great - the daily lunch time set menu is great value and changes daily but the star of the show is clearly the wine
I so badly wanted this place to be great from all the hype, but alas, I had a really poor experience here. Wine: 5/5 - in fairness, the wine collection here is top class and the by the glass rotations they have are genuinely interesting. Definitely come for the wine, but... Food: 2/5 - the food here is often over engineered and quite mediocre. I can understand what they're doing with a Modern European angle but some of the combinations just really didn't work. Jamon croquettes were quite salty 3/5, lamb was well cooked but paired with beans that were overpowering although tbf very good, just a strange combination that didn't really complement one another and the plaice was just bad bitter with a tartar sauce that was too acidic. Doesn't help that the food was VERY expensive can get much better food for the same price at other places like St. John's If you were to come here, I'd recommend just sticking to wine, bread and charcuterie and nothing else and you should have a good time.
All these pub restaurants are brilliant but this is the best. By far. Love the understated atmosphere. The fires. The quirkiness and food has always been superb. Love taking people there. My son introduced me to it and now it’s a firm favourite when I want to impress or thank someone with some subtlety. It’s not too well known but adored by those who do. I don’t take advantage of the very unusual way they serve special wines but I’m sure most people do.
Eclectic venue with nice decor and interesting conversation points such as the lighting and artwork. Food menu to my personal liking - fish - hake and mackerel both cooked perfectly and served with vegetables and potato’s. The wine list was possibly one of the longest wine lists I’ve ever seen - we tried two - a sparkling and a rose. Both were nice but an addition of a shop or store to buy the wines would have been useful as would more wine options by the glass. The service was very good. Unfortunately I didn’t look at the bathrooms but I know they stock Aesop products. I’d also love to return on a day when there is live music as I hear this is very good too. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.
Wine list: 10/10. If you like old wine at reasonable price. This is the place. I appreciated they offered zalto glasses. Food: 7/10. Can be hit or miss. The lamb chop was fantastic but my rabbit was very very salty. Dessert menu is great.Food: 4/5
