Our visit to the Sennedd was amazing. The guide was so knowledgeable and informative in a way that conveyed how this wonderful building fulfills it's purpose. I don't mean functional purpose like holding meetings, I mean aspirational purpose of inclusion, accessibility and transparency. For anyone who cares about how democracy works, I highly recommend
Absolute rubbish.the building looks like a caravan . i realise it was supposed to be made of natural materials but surely it could have been made to impress rather than offend all the slate floor around the building floods as well . take a look at other government buildings in other countries, Scotland Magnificent. N. Ireland, Beautiful. London, Grand. We are certainly the poor relation. We do have the City Hall in Cathays Park which is Magnificent, Grand, and Beautiful and would have cost less than that ugly building down the bay.
We visited as a party of three adults one with mobility difficulties, having never been to Cardiff before. We emailed in advance and received many timely and informative replies from Menna. All was arranged easily and efficiently, the entire visit to the Assembly being free of charge. There are security guards right at the entrance and so please be aware if you have scissors or other sharp objects they will keep them for the day giving you a tag and you can collect the item back when you leave the building. When we arrived inside we were greeted by a tour guide Sam and he was joined by a learning-to-be-a-tour-guide Gwern. Both were friendly and welcoming. Sam is by far one of the most knowledgeable guides we have had the pleasure of having. He told us a lot about the symbolism of the building, the history of the National Assembly for Wales as an institution and about the way the assembly works today. Although you are not allowed to go down to the chamber of the assembly where the representatives sit, that did not detract one bit from our experience and we did feel the tour was 100% worth our time! We came out so much more knowledgeable about Wales as a country, it's people, its history and potential future. In the afternoon we did sit in and listen to the assembly in session, which was very interesting and added an element of reality to the theory that Sam had delivered in the morning. The building is 100% disability friendly; it has automatic doors, disabled toilets and lifts for access everywhere. Overall, we would say this was one of the easiest, most enjoyable, most informative and interesting visits to a sight and landmark that we have had. We thoroughly recommend it to everyone, regardless of how interested you are in politics, history, architecture or anything else that might make you wonder if its worth visiting. It definitely is!!!
An incredible building, and the reflection within the walls of the intent behind Welsh democracy - accessible, transparent and participatory. I was lucky enough to have a expert tour with Richard, and chatted with Giles too. It is free to enter, and has event spaces that are available to bring people together comet displaying, skills, knowledge and understanding that will help Wales been known as one of the most progressive places to be.
A great looking building that is freely accessible and well worth a visit. The security upon entry was as expected with the staff suggesting it was a similar process to an airport. Well it wasn’t - they were extremely polite, helpful and patient with people. It’s a small thing but it makes a difference
Quite impressed with old style mixing with new. Nice exhibitions being held whilst I was there and also some very interesting history to read up on. People also very helpful, give it a try when your next in the bay.
Very classic and transparent building. A must see place when u r in Cardiff. In actual it Closes at 1630 hours but their website says it closes at 1700 hours. If u wana visit here, keep in mind that closing time 1630 hours for visitors. Beside this, many historic places and monuments are present. There is also a barrage near it. U can also visit see side on walking distance. An old church is also located near it. People here are polite and cooperative. Overall a good experience.
Very nice place to visit :
Brilliant place for coffee and a look round. Very warm and friendly welcome from all the staff especially the gentleman on the front desk and the gentleman in the cafe who just started today. Well done all
It's beautiful. The color of it could wonderful match the color of sea and the sky. And there is a lovely visiting tour of the assembly which is free!
