First visit to this tapas style bar. Fairly quiet for a Friday. Got a window seat. Service was polite and friendly, everyone seemed to love what they were doing... the food was outstanding. We went for the 5 courses for £20 option. Every course was fantastic, really tasty and well prepared. It all looked nice too. The cottage pie was an artform as well as being really tasty. Can't fault any of it. We left full and satisfied. Hope to return soon.
We were excited about the 8 course meal but we ended up feeling quite disappointed. Most of the dishes we received looked nothing like the amazing dishes shown on the website and although the menu states subject to change it was barely anything like the menu shown. The presentation was fairly poor, especially the mouth sized pieces of pork, liver and ham hock that were just sat in the bottom of a dish with nothing to accompany them. It could have been really nice but it felt like something was missing from nearly every dish. We got the wine flight which was nice but for £150 per couple I would have expected quite a bit more or at least something I couldn't make at home. Sorry Mr Nobody but we felt a bit cheated :
Nice quiet bar upstairs with it's own smoking area to the rear meaning you don't have to go onto the street. Restaurant area downstairs and hidden away, clean, well lit and spacious. Food, what best to describe this other than, "Please Sir, can I have some more?" I had the Porterhouse steak and it was cooked to perfection, meant was obviously fresh and just fell to pieces as I was eating it. Other meals in our group where the Mini Chicken, the Burger and Pork Belly. Seeing as there wasn't anything left of these meals at the end I can safely assume that these where good as well. Overall, it's a good price for a fantastic meal, slightly expensive if you are on a budget, but for steak this good in a place like this, I'd pay it again.
Had a lovely Saturday evening - garden out back was near enough deserted, so we went as a group of friends and stayed all evening. Server was lovely, drinks were delicious. We haven't eaten there, but it's definitely a place we intend to go back to. The only thing we would mention is that the music was piped through to the garden, so we had to converse with raised voices. Still though, we had a nice, quiet Saturday night to ourselves in the middle of the city - a rare thing that we very much appreciated.
Not cheap, but cheap for the quality of what you get. Seriously good food. Had a fantastic evening here, the drinks slider as accompaniment to the tasting menu is a must-the sommelier does well : Was blown away by their goose ravioli with textures of mushroom and truffle oil. Also loved the seaweed butter : Can't wait to go back again.
What an absolute disappointment. The concept holds such promise but the delivery of the most important aspect, the food, leaves a lot to be desired. Mostly, the food was bland and not appropriate for the Tapas style. The cost vs value was ridiculously poor; main corse prices for Tapas size/style food. Regular checks on how we found the food allowed us to politely feed back to the staff. One of these turned out to be the manager who gave no indication that he was surprised or concerned, just brushed it off. Very poor.
Whilst I hadn't eaten here I am reviewing purely from a customer experience and customer service perspective and have to say this is one of the most welcoming, knowledgeable and enthusiastic bars I have ever visited and not just in Leeds. They are going to have a refurb as of my review and the pictures are pre refurbishment so I will post pictures after this as I will definitely be back. The area is clean and a really nice atmosphere which seems chilled but the staff are attentive. Drinks: this has to be THE best place for cocktails and is a complete hidden gem. If you are a local OR a visitor please search out this place as I cannot recommend enough. You will find other gems in Leeds but none that Joe and Dan will provide the level of knowledge and enthusiasm about cocktails that I have experienced. SECRET: there is a cocktail that isn't on the menu you need try called The Last Thyme. WHETHER YOU ARE A LOCAL OR VISITOR HUNT THIS PLACE DOWN AND CHAT TO THE STAFF.
At first, I was excited about this revamp of what was previously 'Rare', but after dining, it was a disappointing experience. The food lacked flavour and did not command a 'wow' response. Overly expensive for tapas - of which there a better venues which deliver better quality food. The service was adequate - the waitress was great at accepting responses however the manager failed to respond in the way a disappointed resterantuer would expect. Overall verdict warrants a 2* review.
Ate at rare 14/06/2014 - Terrible service, burnt and well overpriced steak. Yet another 'gimmicky' restaurant in Leeds. My two friend were told that they should order a 1000g steak as the server 'didn't think that 600g between them would be enough'!! Would not recommend to anyone, stick to other steakhouses in Leeds.
Fab staff. Especially Joe and Dan. Ignore the menu and get them to go off piste, that's when it's more exciting! Make their own ingredients on the premises. Freshly refurbed, looks great. Recommend to try the taster menu in restaurant. Exceptional!
