Crafthouse

About

Crafthouse showcases the very best British produce, paying homage to Leeds’ rich culture and heritage with a focus on outstanding quality food and wine.

Story

Located on the fifth floor of the new Trinity Leeds shopping centre, Crafthouse is accessed directly via a scenic lift from Boar Lane or from within the shopping centre.

The 144-cover space offers views across the city from within the restaurant or on the dedicated outside terrace, and pays homage to Leeds’ rich culture and heritage with space dividers inspired by looms and ceiling rafts reminiscent of fabric reams. An open kitchen faces onto the restaurant's dark oak and marble interior. Specially commissioned local artwork features throughout.

Tina Norden, Associate Director at Conran and Partners, describes the design concept:
"We wanted our design to reflect Leeds' past and present - both its great industrial heritage and its status as one of the most vibrant, metropolitan cities in Europe. In Crafthouse, we've used a palette of heavy materials – oak, marble, dark leather, black ceramics and patinated zinc - to create an industrial feel. Room dividers inspired by looms nod to Leeds' central role in the textile industry.

This contrasts with Angelica, a less formal space, decorated in a palette of natural colours, chrome and light wood, and with a landscaped garden terrace sweeping around the outside."

The open kitchen delivers regularly changing seasonal menus created by Yorkshire-born executive head chef, Lee Bennett, with the focus on quality produce, professionally cooked and simply served.

I had a beautiful experience and I will definitely revisit. Getting off the lift, the reception from staff and atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. I enjoyed all the meals I ordered and also tried the cauliflower steak it was my first time trying a vegetarian dish and it was delicious. I also loved the idea of savouring my meal while seated in a room filled with plants. If you really don’t like plants you might be a bit uncomfortable as this location could pass for a beautiful greenhouse. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian steak options.
Stunning food, great service. We had a fantastic experience. We asked to share our starters, no problem at all. We had asparagus and the scallops. Both beautiful. The lamb was beautiful too very tastes and cooked medium rare which is just how I like it. I am sure they would cook it to your preference. , I had it with the blackened carrots. Cod was so chunky too and cooked to perfection. We were so full but we had the cheeseboard and again it was delicious and even put on extra crackers! Lovely birthday and anniversary treat we Will definitely be back Thank you!
My partner and I visited for the first time a couple weekends ago and we absolutely loved it! Staff are welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is lovely. For starters I ordered the asparagus, which I had never tried before and was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend ordered the mackerel, which was a tiny bit salty for his own tastebuds but still really enjoyed. We had the steak and the duck breast for mains and both dishes were incredible. Sticky toffee pudding to finish and wow! So delicious. The staff even brought a complimentary glass of champagne and small pudding for my boyfriends birthday. The attention to detail at craft house is immaculate. We both absolutely loved our experience there and cannot wait to go again.
Delicious food, relaxed nice atmosphere, freindly staff, good menu, good location.Food: 5/5
Really good food, the pork shoulder, scallops, olives, foccacia bread, and the cod were just sublime. The manager was really good and the waiters too. Truly recommendedFood: 5/5
I really enjoy the atmosphere at this place, especially with the diverse crowd that frequents it. The view from the balcony is fantastic, giving me a familiar and comforting glimpse of Leeds city centre, where I live. This connection to my city adds a special touch to each visit. However, I must say I'm not entirely satisfied with the cocktails. They could definitely be improved, but they don't detract too much from the overall experience. Despite this minor drawback, I still find myself coming back for the ambience and the vibrant mix of people. All in all, this spot offers a great vibe and a sense of familiarity, making it a favourite hangout of mine.
Absolutely amazing service from Amanda, came for my dad’s birthday all the staff were so helpful and the food was just fantastic compliments to the chef will definitely be back soon. Would also like to say a big thank you to the team for making me feel so welcome and for putting me in a place where there was space for my pram.Food: 5/5
Used to come here a lot as the food was good and a lovely setting. Haven't visited for quite some time but decided to return and was really disappointed. It took nearly 30 minutes for our food order to be taken, every element of the service was slow whether it was drinks, asking for some sauce. Ordered 2 steaks Ribeye and Rump The ribeye was ok but a little too charred giving it a bitter taste and was chewy. The rump however even with a steak knife was extremely tough and next to impossible to cut. We were absolutely starving after waiting a long time so didn't return it as didn't have the time. I did however remove the service charge and explain that we was disappointed. We just got a sorry and nothing more which for a higher end restaurant I found to be very astounding considering the whole experience was sub par vs all previous visits. Dietary restrictions: They did take great care with allergies which was good to see
Sadly I think that Crafthouse has gone downhill. I have visited multiple times over the years that it has been open, but I think this will likely be my last visit. The food was good, and the staff all very pleasant. Portions were good, and the food was good value for money. However, for a restaurant listed in the Michelin Guide I would expect a higher level of service. The main issues seemed to stem from a very disjointed link between the drink orders and the food orders.. For example we ordered cocktails as an aperitif, yet they arrived during our first course having an ice cold cocktail to accompany hot soup is just not good enough. Our butter was taken away before we had finished our bread, we asked for a second bottle of water that never appeared, and the heavy bass/noise from the bar upstairs did come across more as noise as opposed to atmosphere. It's not a bad place to visit: the food was on the whole very good, but overall the experience was not worth the money and it's the first time I have ever asked for the service charge to be removed.
We visited for my birthday, Sunday lunch with bottomless prosecco. The prosecco was lovely, and topped up generously. The starter of Terrine was very good, compressed well and tasty with the right amount. The lamb Sunday dinner was lovely. We asked for additional gravy which was no bother at all. The staff were friendly and attentive. Thank you for making my birthday very enjoyable!
