Disappointing. Starters were excellent, and was looking forward to the rest of the meal, however it went downhill from there, very quickly. The pork was inedible, it was extremely dry and hard, and no amount of gravy could make it better. The Yorkshire puddings, burnt. The roast potatoes were like they had been deep fried and were completely solid, it was like trying cut through a rock. Asked for some more vegetables to be brought out, and was told that they would be straight out, however they didn't come, asked again, still didn't come, asked a third time and they eventually brought them out, however this meant the rest of the meal was now cold. The main ended up going to waste, so I moved on to dessert hoping it would be better. No. My apple crumble and custard was stone cold, sent it back to be heated and ended up waiting around 20 mins for it to come back. That turned out to be massive chunks of apple and custard on top, couldn't find any crumble. Also the staff seemed extremely rude, some of the male staff were pushing their way through when people were stood up, even young children playing. The female staff seemed to have an attitude and didn't want to be there either. This was up there with one of the worst meals I've had, but not the worst as the veg was edible however I ended up leaving as hungry as I went in.
Just got home from merrimans after a terrible meal. Used to often go for meals before the pandemic and really looked forward to going back again tonight especially as it was for my husbands birthday. The menu is not the same as advertised on the website, it was a very reduced menu. Had a starter and main meal and was only there an hour, didn't even stop for coffee. Would not recommend it, very disappointed. Certainly not worth the £56 we spent. In reply to the owner I would like to say that as it was my husbands birthday and he was somewhat disappointed, I certainly didn't want to make his evening out ? any worse by complaining. I really don't think you were surprised as our plates showed that we hadn't eaten all our meal and left sooner rather than later. We were really looking forward to visiting your restaurant again as we used to really enjoy eating out there. As a result an expected evening out was really spoilt. Perhaps you should amend your menu on your site so that people would be aware of the limited menu and wouldn't be disappointed. With regard to the food served, I have never had garlic mushrooms served on what looked like thick sliced white bread toasted and thin sliced mushrooms, I couldn't taste any garlic, I also couldn't work out what was sprinkled over them. The prawn starter was described as mediocre by my husband. The sea bream was nicely cooked but the gnocchi was swimming in what tasted like a bottled chilli sauce with chilli sprinkled over it, there was some spinach. My husband's comments were that gammon was burnt at the edges, the egg was overcooked but the onion rings although very big were quite nice but couldn't eat them all, the chips were good. I hope this answers your questions about the food. We also noticed that other diners there did not eat all of their meals. I am not dissing your restaurant as you suggested but reviews are there for a reason.
Booked for 1.30pm didn't get to sit down till 2.15 need to have 2hr slots for eating staff work really hard food is always goodFood: 4/5

Excellent food every time, we come most Friday evening also Sunday lunch. Everyone loverly and friendly couldn’t ask for anymore.
Just had the most wonderful meal here with my partner, friendly staff are very welcoming and within 10 minutes of ordering the freshly prepared food was given to us. The starters were absolutely lovely cannot fault them at all! The mains steak and gammon steak were absolutely perfect! Will be definitely visiting again and reccomending to all of my friends/family.
We had a family Sunday lunch for 13 of us and the meal and service was absolutely brilliant, all the staff were so professional considering some were very young. Well done to you all I would certainly recommend and return to the Merrimans.
