I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. The burger is outstanding. It had a great flavor and was cooked perfectly. The server was attentive. I also enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding. The selection of scotch and beer here is good if that's what you're looking for. I am hoping to come back soon and try more. Updated review because the Haven has a new location. Old location "had some cute seats in the window!"
We were all underwhelmed. We stopped in on vacation, favoring local fare over chain restaurants. Maybe the experience was distorted by the poor service we received. To be fair, the other tables around us seemed to have great service. People who showed up after us all had their orders taken before us, their food and drinks came quickly. Our server seemed to forget about us and we had to yell for him to come to us after several attempts of getting his attention went unnoticed. Unfortunately, the food was overpriced for being so bland. $10 for a single scotch egg or sausage. No seasoning on the potato wedges, not even salt that I could tell, and burger. The mashed peas that came with the haddock were cold, which may be intentional, but it's odd. My family wasn't prepared for the lack of options on the menu, so I provided a picture for future hopefuls.
By far the best burger I have ever had. I know it is rated as one of the best in the country, but personally, the best I have had. Pair the Haven Burger with a Scotch Egg appetizer and a Belhaven Black and you have my favorite meal. Follow that up with some Scotch and you have what I had last night. We went for dinner and then had tickets for Dram night. Another suggestion is to go for a dram night. Jason, the owner is a fantastic host and if you happen to be there on a night that Elias Alexander is in town it will be magical. The new location has a fantastic vibe and really does bring the environment up a few levels. The bar is lovely and well stocked. I had a great evening. I do have to admit, this is one of my favorite places to go anywhere. Even the other patrons were fantastic at dinner and at the dram night event.
Parking is difficult, but worth the effort. The menu is diverse and has an amazing array of Scottish foods. The entire place is much like a cozy pub, only missing snugs. The only complaint I could even muster is when we visited, the music was elevator music - nothing Scottish and would have went a long way to helping create the vibe. The meals though, wow! And the house tartar sauce, if we could get the recipe or they'd just sell bottles of it, I don't think there is much we wouldn't put it on! Even the mushy peas were fantastic. I loved the creative cocktails and the imported Orcadian beer!
Excellent service, really unique decor and fun ambiance, food was pretty good, but perhaps a little lacking in salt. For our appetizers we got the pigs in a blanket sausage dish- the mustard in particular had great flavor and the sausage and pastry paired wonderfully with it. The pastry was nice buttery and flaky. The macaroni and cheese came out and looked very appetizing. However, it was a bit bland, and would have been a little better with some salt or additional seasoning. For our mains, we got the fish dinner which was essentially fish and chips. The fish was a little more browned at the top than how I usually see it, but that was alright, and probably a stylistic choice. The batter was thick and crisp. The wedge fries were big and substantial but cooked a little unevenly, and again needed salt or sessoning. The scotches and elderflower cider were terrific. Overall, the meal was good, we had a great time, and I would revisit The Haven to try their other dishes.
Excellent Scottish food. Of course the Shepherd's Pie is out of this world. A nice selection of drinks, particularly scotch and whiskey cocktails. Great scotch collection. The atmosphere is very relaxing, a dim candle light feel. Much better than its prior location on Perkins Street. Very happy to dine at this new location.
A great spot for Scottish food, drink, and atmosphere. You'll find most of the classics here and won't be disappointed by any of it. If you're a fan of Scottish beer, this is your spot. The appetizers and entrees are all spot on. The sticky toffee pudding is good but more cake-like than bread pudding-like. The food is on the expensive side but the cozy atmosphere lessens that sting. My only real critique is that both times we've eaten here, we've felt a little rushed, which isn't quite what you want when looking for that cozy Scottish pub experience. Either way, will absolutely continue to enjoy Haven either for a beer at the bar or dinner.
Fall in love with Scottish food from now on. Super satisfied. Detail see below Scotch egg + crispy wrap * careful with the mustard don’t treat it as butter : Shepard’s pie + super decent taste + satisfied with good amount of lamb + gives me a very “northern flavor” feeling The haven burger * it tastes great but i would say it’s just burger no special taste + fresh and crispy fries $35 each Will come back :
My new favorite burger in the area. Will be back soon Update: First time at the new location and I was amazed with how good everything was. Waiter was attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu and the selections of whiskey. Shepherds pie and Crème Brûlée were delicious but the biggest surprise was the pizza! Sauce was one of the best I’ve had in Boston. Will be back for more
Great food, sleeper on one of the best pizzas in Boston. The sauce was super flavorful and the crust was thin and the perfect amount of crisp. Our server was very knowledgeable about both the food and the drinks. He was able to explain the different types and flavor profiles of scotch, as well as various menu items. Great for a date night or to catch up with friends. Definitely will be back!
