We stayed at The Merrie Lion the night before the F1 British Grand Prix July 2021, which was about 40 minutes drive away on easy, quiet roads. The accommodation was spotless, perfect for what we required, and we spent the evening in the beer garden, enjoying the BBQ food, good beer and live music. The overnight rooms are separate to the pub and are completely soundproof. In the morning, we had a fantastic breakfast. At £80 a night including breakfast, it was a value for money. Recommended.
My wife and I first visited The Merrie Lion for a lunchtime snack whilst looking for property in the area. We were immediately impressed by the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff, and the cleanliness of the pub. We now live a 10min drive from Fenny Compton and since moving, we've visited The Merrie Lion on 3 occasions, the last being a large family gathering for Sunday lunch to celebrate my 70th birthday. Without exception, the quality of our meals has been excellent, and the service has been first class. Each has been a fantastic experience. Without doubt, The Merrie Lion has been a real 'find' for us and we have no hesitation in recommending it.
A very nice village pub. We had a great pie meal & good real ale
A superb meal here last Sunday. The food and service were all faultless. Considering there were 16 of us, and most had 2 or 3 courses, it was all absolutely spot on! Delicious home made, good value food, with friendly staff making it all look effortless! Highly recommended.
The young server was polite, engaging and knowledgeable. We both felt very welcomed. The place was clean and the meal delicious. There was great attention to detail without the intrusive "everything okay" that can get in some food spaces. Even on leaving, the politeness continued. Toilets were spotless, according to Mr Smith. We shall revisit.very nice from beginning to end.
We stayed here last weekend....I can only say its amazing. Food fantastic, service excellent. The rooms are fantastic, and I have never stayed anywhere as clean. Staff amazing.thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.
Called in after a walk in the Dassett Hills. Lovely, friendly welcome. Beer was excellent. Two of us had burger and the others had scampi. It arrived promptly and the burger I had was excellent. The accompanying fries were crispy and tasty. All in all a lovely Post walk lunch.
My husband and I have been to the Merrie Lion pub quiz occasionally or stopped in just for drinks and have always been very happy with the service and the quality here. Tonight we ate for the first time in a long time and were absolutely thrilled with our meal. The prices were extremely reasonable particularly considering the increasing costs. The quality and flavours were really good and all the staff were excellent. We would thoroughly recommend the Merrie Lion and will certainly be back.
Warm cosy lounge bar with horse racing themed pictures. Nice coffee. There's a restaurant too which wasn't open when we visited. Onsite carpark.
A pub with restaurant quality food at reasonable prices. The pub is rambling and nicely divided between standup and chat with the neighbors areas and the quieter restaurant section. Thank you. Sometimes I want boisterous and sometimes I want to enjoy my meal at leisure. We ordered the pie of the day, chicken and leeks with seasonal vegetables pictured made in house and also the fish of the day, sea bass with vegetables pictured . Both were beautifully prepared and we cleaned up plates to the last crumb not pictured. The wine list looked impressive and decently priced even though we do not use it. The house ale is moderately malty with a balance of golding hops.Very drinkable so I had two. We had no room for a dessert of the English Cheese Board paired with a nice port on the same menu. As I said, a pub with several cuts higher food & drink than expected.
