I showed up to have a Rolex Yacht Master authenticated, and Hal Martin introduced himself and said it looked good. I asked him if he had authenticated it by opening it up. He said no. I asked him if he only did a visual inspection, and he said yes. I told him that if I was paying almost $10,000 for a watch it needed to be opened up, and the movement had to be verified to be authentic since there are a bunch of Frankenstein Rolexes that have cases and dials that are originals or very good copies with fake movements or that have been replaced with a different movement. When I told him that, he became upset and said it was going to be $200 for the authentication. I told him no problem, and instantly gave him $200 in cash. He walked off and came back with the movement open to show me and then asked me quite arrogantly if I even knew what I was looking at. Considering the fact that I came to him for his expertise, I don’t understand why he would come back with an attitude, considering that the authentication was what I showed up for. This was beyond unprofessional. When I left, he never gave me a receipt for the authentication and I had to come back to pick it up. The fact that he would do an authentication for someone without opening up the movement on an expensive watch speaks volumes as far as I’m concerned. I owned dozens of high-end watches from APs, to Omega, to IWC, Cartier, and everything in between. I’d recommend taking the business somewhere else where it’s appreciated and where the business is done properly. On a sidenote, if you bring in your watch to consider selling them, they will have a guy that used to work at a pawnshop give you a quote of 1/4 to 1/3 of the value of the watch even if it is excellent condition with box and papers. With these experiences, I’m off to do business elsewhere. I would recommend that you do the same.
Huge thank you to Tarang! I absolutely love my ring and can’t wait to return for more watch and jewelry needs. The ring design process was super seamless, didn’t take long at all to design and bring to life a custom ring; and Tarang was stellar at breaking down the 4C’s during our first meeting as well as anything to do with diamond jewelry. There are no dumb questions with him and he does a great job breaking things down. I brought it back to be resized because I have larger knuckles and a slim finger base so my rings tend to spin. He was great. No charge for the resize, it was done FAST. I took it in around lunchtime on a Tuesday and before noon on Thursday it was back on my hand. He even had a solution ring beads for people like me with the knuckle issue. So far the resize is great, if I need the beads added in the future, it’s great knowing I have a trusted person! largest rolex selection in Houston, many models available and very great prices. many other places have limited stock, Hal martin’s has more than 100 rolex in stock and all in pristine condition. Watch sold to me was in perfect condition, much better than any other jewelry store I have shopped at which will sell you the watch unserviced, Hal martin has their watches fully serviced from the watch mechanism and also case refinish. Owner was such an amazing person, so helpful and reasonable. He let me try on many pieces of jewelry without judgement. Thank you for helping me find my watch! 10/10 experience, will definitely be shopping at Hal martin’s for my future watch endeavors
What comes to mind when I look back at over 15 years of doing business at Hal Martin's? What a blessing. Not once have they ever let me down, or steered me in the wrong direction. Listening to their advice has a measurable return on investment that has always been positive. I remember years ago asking Tarang, "What is a good Rolex to buy that will go up in Value over time, his answer was, "Submariners are reasonable right now and anything stainless you cannot go wrong with, to be worn regularly or put up as an investment". The watch I bought that day, after carefully listening, was a Submariner that has since over doubled in value conservatively. Recently I stopped by to drop it off for service after years of being worn regularly. When I picked it from Service it looked as good / if not better than the day I bought it. Rachel called me several times to keep me updated. I remember her saying, "It's being pressure tested.". I said, "Nice, I wasn't expecting it to be pressure tested”. She replied, "You bought the watch from us and when you brought it back for us for service that included us making sure everything is working properly when you pick it back up." Nicely stated Rachel. Their understanding of the watch market has been proven over decades, and like their reputation it only gets better. For over a Decade I have touted them as the go to people in Texas for anything Rolex, anything Swiss, anything that watch aficionados may be hoping to add to their collection that odds are they most likely will not find it on their own.
