Lovely coffee house with a homely vibe. The interior takes you back in time! The garden is inviting on a nice day. The pastry is yummy though a bit pricey.. Overall a relaxing, comfortable experience.
Absolute rip off. Disgusted on my visit yesterday. £4.60 for tea in a paper cup dining in and 35p extra for milk. Soup served in paper cup and charged extra for bread and vegan butter. Cheese toastie, no garnish and very small slice bread. Total £27.70 for 2 teas, one soup and toastie. Reason given when I complained was it was to cover overheads! Place was almost empty and another customer also commented on price....we even had to dunk our own teabag. I appreciate it's economically difficult but ripping off customers won't help. Will never go again.. Vegetarian options: Apparently organic produce but not reason we chose it...simply looking for an independent cafe
It was okay and was very quiet and quaint, but expensive for what you get cake was small and tea consisted of a mug with hot water with a tea bag on the side. It is also a bit OTT with the organic side and the very limited ingredients, which means not much choice. We didn't realise but having read other reviews it appears there is a minimum spend of about £5 per person. We went in for coffee and cake, but had we just wanted a drink each they wouldn't have served us. It is beyond me how they make any money.
Came yesterday afternoon on a recommendation and was greeted by a very rude old guy who made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome as 2 out of 3 of us were mask exempt! He insisted on spraying each of our hands with the same stuff the tables were being cleaned with even though we used the gel provided in there. There is a £5 minimum spend PER PERSON! so not somewhere to go if you only want to have a drink and to my horror even though I had none with me no babies are permitted in the cafe! Needless to say I won't be going back! I would have walked out but was so dumbfounded by the man's attitude and behaviour towards us but my very nervous friend had already started to order
Sadly would not recommend anymore. This used to be one of my favourite places to go with my grandmother, now it’s just a sad shell on its former self and ridiculously overpriced. Ordered two mugs of tea no pot option - these were served in disposable cups because according to the server ‘the pot washer didn’t come today’, teabags on the side, milk in small cups which we were charged for. I should have known when we walked in and it was empty, I should have known even more when we looked at the dodgy pictures of the options for lunch. We ordered two cheese toasties £20! which were literally just two slices of brown bread with some vegan cheese and undercooked onions in. No side salad or anything else. Then we had a non-descript scone, no offer of jam just spread which you also get charged for. Avoid this place there are better options in town and it’s very disappointing, particularly when I know it used to be such a magical little spot.
A quirky little coffee house with lots of tables over 2 floors and a garden. Not a huge amount of choice of food other than a toastie or a few dairy/gluten/soy/etc free cakes. Whilst the food is very tasty, portions were meagre and it was very expensive. You are allegedly getting high quality, organic, locally sourced produce but value still seems on the poor side. Maybe if they had more footfall it would be cheaper but it's a huge place to keep going and I was the only customer in there! Atmosphere completely dead, no music but there was an open fire.
My mother and I have been coming here for years now. The building, the fires, the food and drink are all fantastic. It's truly unique. It had such a charm and atmosphere to it that you could reason away the prices. But... it's been some months since we've visited and we were so disappointed to find they were using paper cups. Resources, environment, whatever the reason - just no. It absolutely removes all of the charm and atmosphere that you really DO have to pay for there. If I go to the trouble of sitting in somewhere for a cup of tea, I like to have an actual cup. If I want a takeaway, I'm happy with a paper cup. Sitting there in front of the lovely fire, with a paper cup.... no. And sadly, the prices have gone up even more, which I didn't think was possible. There was hardly any food. We were planning on having lunch as a treat, at the previous prices of roughly £6.95 plus £4 for salad. But finding each tiny dish was £9.95 with no salad just felt a bit ridiculous. You're charged for milk and butter! You'll be charged for using the chairs next! Lowering prices even slightly will attract more customers, bring in some people and create an atmosphere again. It was deathly quiet in there, whereas it used to be packed. I'll be surprised if it's still running next year. I hope this will help in some way, we really do care about the place and hope to see it improve. So many of the reviews say the same thing - must be time to listen before it's too late??
In the past we have always very much enjoyed this coffee house. It has a number of open fires, nooks and crannies for seating, an available-to-play piano and reasonable enough food at only slightly above market prices but we’ve always thought that was ok given the unusually positive ambience. For us it was a go-to place whenever we went into Chichester. Sadly it doesn’t feel as good now. We went this week and found that the crockery cups and stainless steel cutlery have been replaced with paper cups and wooden cutlery one feels as if one’s at a motorway service station now, the prices have increased astronomically and there were very few customers are they voting with their feet? so a dull atmosphere. Not nearly as good as before covid and inflation-plus took their toll. How very sad.
Wonderful place. So cosy and warm, the staff are familiar and caring, and the food was tasty. At one point during our visit the owner quietly started to play the piano beautifully, and I honestly didn't want to leave. Dietary restrictions: Excellent vegan options!! Several cakes and savoury options, milk alternatives, and dairy free butter offered by default!
The St Martins Organic Coffee House is very traditional establishment with over 40 years of history and that's how it should be taken. The service, food and drinks are served in a classic way with focus on organic and homemade produce. The coffee house is a perfect spot for quiet coffee in the morning, however it can get busier at a lunch time.
