I absolutely love this place. The food quality is superb, and the service is friendly if a little slow. Compared to many other London restaurants, though, the service is great - I know that friends of mine from the USA who are used to American levels of service found the place very frustrating indeed, but never have I even had cause to grumble, let alone complain. Go for the lamb chops with the beans and kale together as a side dish. The hand pulled noodles, freshly prepared at the front of the restaurant, are also a winner. By no means a Michelin restaurant, but easily the best I've found in Chinatown.
Been meaning to try Maotai for a year or so and today we popped in on a spur of the moment decision and so glad we did ... Only tried 2 of the noodle soups but brought back memories of the spicy soups we had in Guizhou a couple of years ago. Both were excellent. Good stock, well cooked noodles, brisket was melt in the mouth deliciousness ... Will be returning to work our way through the rest of the menu.
Exceptional traditional food with great management and service. Been here twice and was surprised they recognised us and gave complimentary beers. Highly recommend the hand pulled noodle as they are made in house by their chef. Being away from Taiwan, this place certainly made me feel like home.
Went to this restaurant for lunch, nobody had greeted us when we went in, waited a while we went to the bar asked and been told to go upstairs by ourselves. We went upstairs and nobody there either so we found a empty table and sat down. A waitress walked towards to us with turtle speed threw some menus down saying " you can sit here". Then disappeared for 10 mins we had to call her back to order strange as there were only one other table dining. She took the order and disappeared for another 15 mins and came back with only 1 drink which we ordered 4. Then there were 2 other staff who looked like just came in to work they walked in shouted at each other. Finally one of our stir fried dishes came first, without saying a word the staff just placed the dish on our table, then disappeared for another 15 mins. We called her back again ask how long we need to wait for the rest of the order as the only on our dish was getting cold. She looked annoyed said it's supposed to be cold then walked off again. This is the worst dinning experience we have ever had in our life. We didn't wait for the rest of the food as it was a nightmare sitting in there. We paid for the only dish and ran out of there. They need a better management or just close it down. Terrible customer service and terrible attitude
We ordered a plate of shredded beef and a plate of pickled radish with minced meat. The beef dish was mainly flour based sticks drenched in heavy source. The pickled radish tasted like carrot.
big portion tssty food and they hand make the noodles so you can ask for the different types. i had a ramen noodle with broth and was given a bowl which was full of goodness and as big as my head
Tried it first time on the family day, we went for the supreme set £23.50 per person really disappointing stuff. Poor customer service to top it up, I don't recommend it and I will not come back again!
As a person from Guizhou, this is not how our food should taste like, but still satisfactory.
Great food and very good service. Very reasonably priced.
Good restaurant, generous portion and well made cuisine.
