Thought I would try Maguires as the Whickham fish kitchen was closed. I bought fish and chips x 2 which was absolutely disgusting. Wish I had checked it before I left the shop. The batter was dark brown and rock hard making the fish totally inedible. The chips weren't much better. Not somewhere I will be going back to. Total waste of £16!!
Can't fault the food or the portions sizes - it was huge and really nice. However the place needs a deep clean, the resturant was rather mucky and it was very off putting. The restaurant door was propped open too with all takeway customers adjacent to our table, we wouldn't return to the restaurant but would order from the takeaway again. Prices are canny too, especially with the large portion sizes.

I don't live in the area but came here to eat in and relax. Seating is no longer available. But still good food Parking: Big car park next to shop Wheelchair accessibility: Not possible from car park has steps down to door no ramp. Need to go down public path and back but no drop Kerb onto the path. Not the shops fault.
Went here for the 1st time after looking at their menu online. Ordered Squid rings which are described as 6 in a portion. On getting home i find 4 in the box, on calling them im told the portion is only 3 pieces. Obviously they do not appear to know what they are doing, no apology just that they'll speak to the owner. I know what im doing, i won't be returning. P. S. they are very greasy
Just bought our dinner from here today as our local chippy was closed Quite possibly the worst fish and chips I've ever had Fish was all mushy served in a polystyrene tray Chips were stuck together and gritty and the curry sauce was watery and tasteless Deffo would not recommend
Not as good as it used to be. Fish and chips were served separately in small polystyrene boxes. This then caused both to be squashed and soggy just over a minute later in the car. Won't repeat
Used to love this place but recently it’s gone down hill, place looks dirty, bins overflowing outside with rubbish everywhere. Price lists above fryer are dirty and grubby. Last two times I’ve been in and on both occasions two separate ladies serving were eating near the till neither bothered to wash their hand whilst preparing my food. kebab and salad. It bothers me that they don’t respect hygiene on the outside…… what’s inside like!
Called in for fish and chips decided to eat them on site, the attached cafe next to the takeaway was clean but a bit dated needs bringing out of the eighties, we were served very quickly with regular cod and chips and I must say they were excellent, fish white and flaky, chips cooked to perfection, the staff were very pleasant and the bill was good value, I would definitely eat there again
Amazing fish and chips! Also tried the chicken curry and chips which was very tasty! Quick delivery.
