We visited here on a weekend ski trip, enjoying a lovely breakfast after a good night of sleep, as well as a good hearty supper before our train home. Very helpful staff ensured we made excellent use of our time in the area, with lots of local knowledge keeping us ahead of the crowds. A large selection of whisky was the icing on the cake!

If i could give negative stars i would. I guess that as a bar/pub, Mackenzies is adequate, as a "hotel, there's nothing good to say. The rooms are dark and cold, the beds are hard and lumpy, the light in our shower didn't work, try getting a shower in complete darkness. The shower wouldn't turn off properly, the toilet was so close to the wall and toilet paper dispenser that you worker had to lean or sit sideways. The Wi-Fi in the rooms was very poor. The banister rail on the stairs was so lose and wobbly that I'm surprised it hasn't caused a serious accident/injury yet. After the bar closes at night, there is literally no staff available until the bar reopens at 4pm the following day, except for a lovely young lady who will provide service for breakfast. I think she also does the cleaning. She's the most helpful and friendly member of staff, even though she's only there for a short time each day and her service is fairly limited. During our stay, there was no restaurant service available except for the designated breakfast time. There was no room service as there were no staff available. Most of the staff are rude and ineffectual. We spent many hours trying to make contact with a manager, but we're given the run around by the staff and when we did manage to find out when a manager/owner would actually be on site, we went to see him and we're told that he was now out for the day because he was enjoying his time skiing. 1* for the pub and the excellent service from the young lady, otherwise this venue would've scored ZERO I would seriously recommend that you pay a little extra and stay somewhere that is easily going to be significantly better quality.

Very Poor shower, little to no lighting, flat pillows, a thick layer of dust on top of cupboard and in lamp shade. Breakfast was good but never served untill 8am as we were up skiing we were away by then.

Food is great. Having eaten out in a few places in Aviemore, the food here is actually probably better than most and much more reasonably priced.
