Luton Library Theatre

About

Luton Library theatre offers a range of children's and adult theatre, top comedians, great value films and live music.

Story

Luton Library Theatre opened in 1962 as a lecture theatre before gradually changing to a traditional entertainment venue with 256 seats and two side aisles.

The Theatre began to build up a programme of amateur and professional drama, film, music of all types and children's events. In fact a pretty long list of events that covers almost every taste!

All of this continued through the sixties, seventies and eighties. During the nineties the seating was changed to a more modern style and colour with a centre isle with a slight rake. This meant the amount of seating had to be reduced to the current capacity of 238.
In the late nineties and early noughties, there were more changes both fabric and technical makeup of the Theatre. This brings us up to 2009, when the Library itself closed for a major refurbishment. Some improvements were made to the front of house and bar areas of the theatre, plus the introduction of a new cafe.

Technical improvements continue all the time and with our programme growing each season, we aim to be here for a lot longer!

Tidy little venue now in the hands of volunteers and appears to be run fairly smoothly with various acts, music, and comedy booked over the coming months. The theatre is quite small, seating around 250 or so in tiered seating which gave a good view and a degree of comfort. We saw The Wonders of Our Universe, which was good, if a tad intellectual in places but was well presented by Ian and Charlotte.
The new refurbishment looks a lot more nicer than the previous layout. Makes attendance more easier with the printers at the front of the room and desk closer for members and public to be helped if needed. Haven't been to the upper level yet but I'm sure overall it all looks great!
Love the fact this has been re-opened under a non profit organisation. Managed and run by volunteers. Great upcoming shows and rented at reasonable prices. Get down there now!!!
Such a lovely theatre. The seats go up in tiers, so everyone gets a good view.
Nice venue for the panto. Good size and well priced drinks and snacks. Only problem is the parking in the vicinity.
Lovely place. Used for printing service. Helpful and friendly staff.
I just love the new kids area in the library. I had a lot of fun with my baby there
Very friendly, lovely small venue. Would recommend
