I was very excited to discover this shop when I moved into the neighbourhood a few years ago. It's hard to find shops of this kind anywhere nowadays, and it's just not possible to buy a lot of this stuff online, nor do I want to. A visit today reminded me why I never go there, though. In short, the atmosphere is so tense you need a very sharp knife to cut through it, and it seems to emanate from the miserable woman who runs it. She is unwelcoming, inflexible and seems unhappy. Since I was last there, the shop has been festooned with warnings and 'polite notices'. Fine to ask people not to eat or drink, and not to use their phones while paying or dealing with staff. But 'no mobile phone conversations'? Give me a break. The unpleasantness really is a shame as I value local shops, especially specialist ones, and I'm happy to put my money where my mouth is. But I'm not happy to be treated with hostility and rudeness.
A wonderful place to get what you need if beading is your thing like it is mine, I have been there a few times and have always been treated with respect, I am a man with tattoos and earrings and when I walk into a shop, I always have people looking down at me, but not here I felt welcome and the staff were very polite and helpful and I needed a lot of help lol. I do recommend that if you need beads and some other things this is the shop for you. I had a delightful conversation on Tuesday with the daughter and while she helped me we were talking about anything and everything and I came out happy.
This is truly the best needlecraft store in all of London. It's a wonderful family owned spot with very affordable yet high quality products. Staff are delightfully welcoming and helpful bringing a great community vibe. I would encourage everyone to shop here!
I made a special visit while in London as it looked like a good place for needlework threads - it is! So many types, colours and variations. It was my idea of heaven. The lady serving was friendly and helpful, answering my questions, especially about using a punch needle. Will be telling sewing friends about this gem!
This is wonderful little shop , literally packed with everything that you need. It is run by dedicated women who know their craft. The “ no food, no mobile” policy makes this wonderfully calm and quiet space and encourages people to talk to each other instead. It makes it one of not many spaces where people with sensory sensitivities like Autism can shop in peace without becoming overwhelmed. Also note on some reviews below: if you expect robotic servants with plastered fake smile of their faces just shop somewhere else because here you will get normal human beings who sometimes wear water bottles that is because this shop is their life and they’ll come in and open the shop even when unwell or under the weather. If you say “hello , how are you” you will meet lovely person who has huge knowledge, that you might want to use. So if you look for calm, human connection and expertise as well as everything that you need for your project- this is the place for you.
The shop itself is alright, they have loads of the same things, nothing special, if you know what mean. The older blonde short hair lady was very rude and stressed, when I asked simple questions and made her close her shop 5 min late. I honestly doesn't think it worth it. It was a quite unpleasant experience and I spent more than £200. Very very poor costumer service...
This place is simply incredible. From the street, it looks like a small haberdashery but once inside the place keeps getting bigger and bigger as you go through. The staff is absolutely lovely and will happily spend time helping out whether it is to find something or to figure out what is best for what you want to do, without pushing you to buy form them at all. <3 <3
Good shop in some ways. Nice beads and findings. The manager - the blonde woman, is always stressed and doesn't seem happy to serve the customers. If customer service is such a problem then either find another job or find someone else to do it. The atmosphere in the shop is uptight and tense. The shop itself is claustrophobic and badly organised... The older Australian woman is nice though.
So helpful. I'm completely new to jewellery making, but the Aussie lady who served me was patient, kind, informative and took the time to physically show me how to use the tools and parts I needed, despite it being right at the end of the day. Highly recommended.
Amazing shop. Best selection of DMC/Anchor tapestry wools I have seen anywhere, and actually the only place I have found in London to stock these since John Lewis stopped. I am lucky enough to live close enough to visit, but they are happy to colour match wools if you post a sample. Amazing service, lovely staff. Right opposite the tube station at Kentish Town Northern Line .
