Really enjoyed our evening at Lincoln castle. We paid to go in out of usual hours as it was quieter and we wanted something to do once the shops had closed before we went for an evening meal in the centre. The castle was great to walk around and the staff were helpful and friendly. Even out of usual hours the gift shop was still open too but the exhibitions aren't but that's why it's a bit cheaper than in the day. Will definitely be going back again soon
What a great place to come for a walk, a chill, some drinks, or with the kids. In summer the grounds have food, drinks bar and there's a band stand kicking out live tunes. A wonderful grassy area to sit and enjoy the food or to just relax and watch the world. You don't need to pay to every the grounds, but you will if you want to walk the perimeter wall recommended and visit inside the old castle and prison and of course the Magna Carter. Well worth a visit on a nice day. Parking: Plenty of car parks within 10 minute walk of the cathedral and castle.
The trip to Lincoln castle was very much last minute and we completely underestimated how much there is to see! Allow several hours to view all of the attractions and points of interest. The wall walk is a favourite of mine, offering incredible views of the city.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Amazing Christmas market. The best I have ever been to. Amazing stalls, hot food, huge selection. All the stalls wooden cabins and people dressed as Victorian style stall holders. Fair ground. It's worth it for the experience, truly Christmas magic.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We didn't pay to go inside but nice to walk through the grounds and read some of the history. The court house is very grand. We would have loved to have done the Christmas tree light display if wed have known about it! The cafe was quite expensive and not much variety or choice. Accessible to walk through with push chairs or wheel chairs.
we had an excellent tour of the castle.. old prisons were interesting too...the cathedral is amazing...used the park and ride.. steep street is full of great little shops x cafes.. walked along by the river side walk.Visited onWeekday
We really loved the Cathedral and Castle Quarter. The castle grounds are great for a family picnic and they are free to enter. We paid what was rather a high price to be able to walk the castle walls and visit the jail. However, the spectacular views was probably worth the cost. There is a lift up to the castle walls but the visit is not for the feint-hearted. There are several staircases to navigate and a very narrow spiral staircase to the top of the tower. Well-placed and interesting placards explain the history and the view over Lincoln and the surrounding countryside. Within the grounds and embedded in the walls is Lucy the dragon, rumbling and growling. Every 15 minutes she roars and emits clouds of steam. Great for children and again free. The jail is very interesting and the staff/guide was very welcoming and recommended the best way to tour. On the way, we viewed Lincoln’s copy of the Magna Carta and watched a short film in the theatre. A great day out, combined with a visit to the cathedral. On the way back down ‘Steep Hill’ there are many interesting stores, and some art and some antique shops, as well as the usual tourist tat.
Absolutely brill place to visit & make time to experience everything there is to do here i am so glad we did Great views from the castle wall, the prison is also a must. All staff we encountered were extremely polite & helpful I won't tell you everything. Go & enjoy.
Well worth a visit. The audio tour of the castle walls were very good and is included in the entry price. We really enjoyed the prison as well. Lots for children to do, games in the prison cells.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Well worth a visit. The grounds are mainly grass, so a great place to chill out on a sunny and there's a good cafe. There are lots of events held in the grounds throughout the year. Entry to the grounds is free but if you want to walk the castle walls or have a guided tour there is a fee but worth it.
