This is the brand-new Lidl that replaced the outdated one on Station Square. While the building itself looks impressive and the store is significantly larger, the overall experience was a letdown.nnThe bigger size doesn't bring a better selection - just more of the same items as before. Unfortunately, there's no noticeable improvement in product variety, and certainly no expansion in the range of imported goods from places like Germany. It's a missed opportunity.nnI was really hoping for a more hygienic bakery setup, like the side-dispensing systems you see in some continental European stores - but sadly, it's the same old system where everyone either grabs bread with communal tongs or touches items directly. Disappointing, especially considering past hygiene issues.nnAs for promotional or limited-time items, it's too early to say how well they're being managed - so I’ll leave my original hopes in place for now.nnThe toffee yum yums? Still as delicious but still squashed. Some things never change.nnThere are a couple of positives, though. The parking spaces are long enough for normal-sized cars - none of those frustratingly short, typically Irish spots where bumpers stick out. It’s a small but meaningful upgrade that makes a difference. And the green space around the car park, with well-kept grass, adds a nice touch.nnHowever, it's frustrating that instead of adopting smart practices from European Lidls, they’ve introduced the worst one: having to scan your receipt just to exit through the gates after using the self-checkouts. Unnecessary and awkward.nnIn summary, the new Lidl Cookstown looks promising on the outside, but when it comes to product variety, hygiene, and smart store design, it sadly fails to deliver.
The food is AMAZING here and the stuff is so cheap would recommend

Class shop only after getting my turkey for Christmas
Guy on the till rushed my goods through as if he was in a competition even when I asked him specifically to slow down a bit so I could get things packed, he was basically rude and just kept stacking everything higher and higher ignoring me, I struggled to do the packing and was not happy!! No consideration for the customer whatsoever, won't be back!
