Leighton Buzzard Railway

About

Official Facebook page for the Leighton Buzzard Railway, a narrow-gauge heritage railway in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.

Mission

We are a non-profit organisation, whose mission is to preserve the line, as one of the few surviving narrow-gauge light railways in England, and operate it as a working museum and tourist attraction. The locomotive collection comes from all over the world, and we also have items from the First World War military railways. Most passenger trains are hauled by a steam engine at least 75 years old

Products

The basic train ride runs from Page's Park, on the south side of Leighton Buzzard, to Stonehenge Works, to the north of the town, and the return journey takes 80 minutes. Party bookings can be made either on public services or on a charter basis. Refreshments are available at the Page's Park station buffet.

Really nice trip on a steam train. Got in with a group ticket seeing as we were a family of six. The kids enjoyed their Easter egg hunt and meeting the Easter bunny. They're a bit too young to understand all the information about the engines but they enjoyed watching the engines moving around in the yard. Thank you.

Good amount of train related activity and things to see. Very child friendly with helpful staff and a nice long train ride to another interesting destination which has an historic story to tell via interesting exhibits and information boards. When they're open the engine shed is worth a look if you like the engineering side. There's an onsite cafe with good options including some vegetarian and kids lunch boxes for the smaller train enthusiast. As a bonus, although not part of the site, there's a decent children's play park so they can let off steam before the journey home.

Interesting ex-industrial railway. I have never seen so many narrow gauge locomotives in one place. Very informative visit.

Great for kids of all ages. The transformation from a narrow gauge mineral railway I knew as a kid into the museum railway of today is a credit to the volunteer army who made it happen. There is an Excellent interpretive display in the engine shed/museum annex at Pages Park. The main collection is at the other end of the line. Stonehenge Station houses an homage to the lost industry of manual sand extraction. The collection is mostly capable of being demonstrated and facinating to watch. The railway uses many bits of kit which date back to the 14/18 war and reenactments are sometimes undertaken.
