The expression ‘Hidden Gem’ gets used quite frequently and usually never lives up to the expectation. In this instance it’s fully deserved. I had no preconceptions of the place as I was only mildly interested in a place to grab a light lunch when I walked past it as I have done countless times before. Without reading a single review I booked and within 10 minutes I was sitting downstairs in a wonderful environment that is as fun as the happy and attentive staff that welcomed me. I chose the Le Menu option - 2 courses for £17.75 - and went with the Pate followed by the Steak & Frites. I asked for a suggestion for a glass of wine and was recommended a Gammy which I took as a medium. It’s not flashy, it’s not mucked about with, it’s not made to sound like something it’s not. It’s good, honest French food done very well indeed. The steak was cooked perfectly and came with an optional peppercorn sauce 95p extra, the only thing I get grumpy about is paying extra for a sauce like this when ketchup or mayonnaise is free The fries were typical French Fries, not thrice cooked by Virgins and dipped in Holy Oil, but just French Fries. The Pate was just right and served with small portions of President French butter, which was a nice touch. The service was excellent, the decor perfect and I have vowed to return with friends, as a night in there would be exceptional fun and good value. It’s a hidden gem and I really don’t want you to find it, I want to keep it to myself.
You would never know once you enter that you’re located in the hustle and bustle of theatre land near Leicester Sq tube. Old school French restaurant with lovely service and great food. The calamari in a garlicky sauce is a must, lots of bread to dunk nice charcuterie and rib eye steak with fries was very moreish. Very good peppercorn sauce . A lovely place for a date night
Wonderful food - simply delicious. I had the confit of duck, while my partner had French onion soup followed by boeuf Bourguignon. The atmosphere was intimate and I loved the fresh pink roses on every table. The desserts were also outstanding - I had Tarte Au Citron while my partner had the mini selection of mignon dessertsFood: 5/5
Locate that just around the corner from Leicester Square and Leicester Square tube station this French restaurant at the corner of Garrick Street. On entrance, the menu is displayed on a blackboard. There are some seating upstairs with tables, but we walked downstairs in the seller which I must say is dark crammed and somewhat musky. We had a table for 11 which was flushed against the wall which made it very difficult for guest to get into the seats as the end seating was a bench similar to a church bench and there was a wall which had to walk around to get to the opposite side of the table , via some other diners in a different room. The foie gras was actually below par, the brioche over toasted and dry. The garlic flavoured olives was over powered by the garlic and hazardous to one’s breath! The scallops which came as a three were small scallops and had an Asiatic sauce to it with lemongrass rather than the classical French but tasted good and above average. The cassoulet de Toulouse : the beans with pieces pork and sausage with grilled duck leg was good. The beans was flavoured with the pork pieces which was rich and fat based. The lemon tart was average, too tart and the crème brûlée was above average as nice creamy and the sugar layer not too thick. Wine selection was good some above-average wines but a lot of it was over prized for what it was and poorly rated. Service was average, at times the table was over filled with glasses as we had water glass, champagne before the food and white and red wine. The speed to turnaround of the glasses and removal was slow. The general ambiance was not great crammed crowded noisy musky dark. Toilets was absolutely filthy!
Really great French spot I London. The upstairs space is quite small, but there is a terrace and downstairs seating as well. Service was great and in French, which was a bonus! The food was good and flavourful and there were typical French dishes that you would find in the home-country, no fusions, which was nice.Food: 4/5
Beautiful restaurant with a rustic charm. I had the Confit de canard et pomme purée and it was exceptionally tasty and the meat just melted in your mouth! Starter was the most perfect roasted asparagus at Le Garrick. Tender texture with bite and a lovely sweetness to the asparagus. What really impressed me was the Café Gourmand dessert which included a choice of coffee or tea and a selection of Crème brulée, Tarte au citron, Petit pot au chocolat amongst other delicious desserts. It was really good value for the amount you get. Service was fantastic and our waiter was friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend Le Garrick.
We were downstairs in the dim, candlelit space; very moody and atmospheric. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Scallop starters were on cauliflower sauce and had a tart drizzle of sauce on top; very soft and satisfying. Beef bourguignon had excellent flavour sauce and the meat a little dry. Mussels were absolutely delicious and the cockerel was also lovely. The creme brulee had one of the best cracking off the brittle melted sugar on top. The lemon tart had wonderful zest and real lemon rind.
I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The waiters were warm and friendly. They looked after my wife and I who were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The food was delicious. It had a home cooked feel to it, which added to the enjoyment. They have a good selection of reasonably priced wine. Overall I thoroughly recommend and I plan to return soon.
That is a lovely French cuisine little gem in Covent Garden. Small restaurant with cosy atmosphere we nearly made friends with people at the table next to us as you can hear everything, great food our main, desert and drinks were fab and lovely staff. The menu has all the main French cuisine dishes in case you’re a fan like me, so it was a hard choice means we have to come again. We came for a pre-theatre dinner and really enjoyed it. It’s over to you now.
Come on, two courses for £17.75 you can’t go wrong. Great vibe good food and friendly helpful staff.Food: 5/5
