Absolutely brilliant. We booked the guided tour. Christopher, the tour guide was amazing, an absolute fountain of knowledge. The guided tour costs £9 but worth every penny. Amazing history, it's still a working crown court, so you're not allowed to take photos inside. We are definitely going to go back for another visit.
It was a great experience visiting the historic medieval Castle on my one day motorcycle ride. Dominating the local skyline, Lancaster Castle is one of England's best-preserved castles.nThe castle is located near to Lancaster city centre and is sign-posted from junctions 33 and 34 of the M6 motorway.
I didn’t expect this, it’s a prison! HMP Lancaster castle, lovely old castle that’s been re used as a prison, and now a police and prison museum, along with a great place for ice cream and coffee.nnIt’s £9 for an adult to go around the buildings. But there is a free police museum I did a review on that too nnNot a whole day out but will fill an hour or two of your time
Very interesting place, home to a castle, a prison, police museum and still working civil and criminal courts. Whole family found it fascinating and price is very reasonable for the tour. Staff are great Would highly recommend
Today, I finally visited Lancaster Castle for the first time with my familyn, despite living in Lancaster. The tour was fantastic, largely thanks to Simon, our guide, who was engaging and extremely knowledgeable. We explored the old prison wings, including the women’s prison, and the historic courtrooms where the Pendle Witch Trials took place. Simon’s storytelling really brought the castle’s history to life.nnAfterward, we had the unexpected treat of watching Alan Ward, a stone sculptor, carve intricate head sculptures. It wasn’t part of the tour, but it was amazing to see such skill in action. Overall, a brilliant experience—highly recommended!
