Fantastic facility in the middle of the countryside. The golf course is not bad at all. It is all three other bits like bowling etc. That make it really good. The club house I great too.

We didn't come to stay here, but played pitch and putt! The course is really nice, with the fairway and green maintained really well - Lakeside also has a 6, 9 and 18 hole course to look after so that standard is generally applied to the pitch and putt course too. Last time I went (Sept 17) the actual golf shop was pretty equipped, but not very tidy... It's an ideal shop if you know what you want or need, but it's not the greatest to browse.

I've been a member at Lakeside for 4 years or so now and I've not had a bad experience to date. I tend to visit once or twice a week for golf, beer, and bar food. The bar is relatively modern and moderately stocked. Not a huge variety of modern drinks but all the standard drinks. A lack of modern ales and beers but enough for a post-game pint. The bar and restaurant staff are all very friendly and helpful. They're always willing to go that extra mile to help. The food is pretty good, a variety of bar foods such as burgers, bacon sandwiches and cheesy chips and the restaurant menu is very fancy with some interesting dishes. You'll find something for fussy eater and something for the adventurous. The lack of a 5 star food hygiene rating is concerning, but personally I've not had any problems so far. The only real recommendation on food from me would be to get the rating up and make safety a priority, even if it means cutting the variety back. Open all year every year since my membership, the main (Lodge) course is very scenic and has some beautiful old trees. In places around the driving range it could do with being mowed a bit shorter but I suspect there's a degree of pest control (moles) preventing that, and if you're not as dire at the game as myself you'll not have a problem there. Well designed with a few raised greens, some challenging turns and the odd break to bring some wind and interesting lighting into play, it's a challenge but still forgiving. The trees are kept in shape so it's a lot easier to find balls lost under the foliage. Even during the worst rainfall we've seen, the course remains open and not so waterlogged that it's any harder to play. The Manor course is a 9-hole welcome break from the lengthy main course. Some challenging shots straight over water and a good long par-5 give a good variety of course to play, and wide fairways make it a safe course for the beginner/intermediate player. This course has been closed twice during the heights of winter due to water, but not for long and when it's opened back up, it's in very good condition. The old Church course was a very windy affair, it's closed now and it will be missed by those who used it, but failing to mention it would be a missed opportunity. The course had to be closed, it was never played enough to pay for itself. There is a club house down by the Manor course which used to be on the Church course, and it has some scenic views over the flat fens. Relatively suitable to the absolute beginner and a good area to practice long drives and to put your irons to test. The par 3 is, well, a par 3. Compared to many I've seen it's kept in relatively good condition. Sadly, though, it does get abused a lot presumably unintentionally by the newer players. A few holes are relatively long for a par 3, but that gives a good variety. The holes are oversized making them ideal for the beginner. A touch more care for the course would not be misplaced, but honestly for the job it's built for I can't complain. The pro shop has a good range of stock with regards to shoes, shirts, and trousers. You might find problems getting clothes in the smaller sizes off the peg, though I haven't really seen many golfers of a similar build to myself so I doubt it'll ever be a problem! They have a great selection of clubs, balls, tees, random extra bits and pieces (cleaning brushes, scorecard holders, etc) and a wall full of gloves containing every size and style you could ever want. The staff in the golf shop are again immensely friendly and helpful, offering good advice and solid recommendations on the products they stock, as well as some they don't! Andy Fletcher (the golf instructor) is friendly, professional, and always trying his best to provide outstanding service. I can't fault him. He knows the game well and has improved my score considerably. If I had the time to invest in the sport he would be my go-to instructor. I can't really comment on the gym or bowling facilities as I've sadly not used them yet.
