Lakeland Wildlife Oasis

Story

The Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is a small zoological collection near the town of Milnthorpe, Cumbria, England, with a science and evolution theme. Since April 2012 the zoo has been run by the registered charity Lakeland Trust for Natural Sciences. The centre is divided into several sections, including a butterfly hall and aquarium, as well as an outside walk-through area. The Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is a member of the BIAZA organisation, and participates in breeding schemes for several endangered species, notably the unusual Fossa. In 2011 the zoo acquired its first snow leopard, a male named Pavan, for which it had built an enclosure with a perspex walk-through tunnel, "thought to be the UK’s first walk-through big cat exhibit". soon followed by a female named Tara. These produced two young during 2014, which were named Loki and Luna, the first successful snow leopard breeding recorded in the North of England.

Absolutely brilliant little wildlife centre. Great for a couple of hours/half a day. Would recommend locals getting an annual membership and making many repeat trips if this is the sort of thing that interests you. Friendly helpful staff, lots of interactive activities, there's a cafe for a bit of refreshments and the obligatory gift shop to pick up souvenirs. Best of all - the animals were all kept in wonderful spacious environments with plenty of enrichment. Well done to everyone who works there. :)

Great place to visit. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, welfare was clearly a high priority and the animals all seemed to be stress free and in fine condition. Would highly recommend. Money spent here feels like money well spent.

We have just got home from a zoo keeper experience. Neil was fantastic and very knowledgeable. We were greeted with a warm smile and given a breakdown of what was going to happen during the experience. Neil made sure we got to spend a bit of extra time with the Lemurs as this was my wife's favourite. Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is a fantastic place for people of all ages and I would definitely recommend the zoo keeper experience to anyone. Thanks Neil..!

It's small, but what's there is well kept and presented. Lots of fun and interest for our kids aged 2 and 5, especially the feeding and handling sessions. Good food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Been here twice and we be back again.

We had an afternoon out with our two grandchildren here today and very much enjoyed it, started with a good lunch for us all in the cafe which we all enjoyed and the staff were great. The Oasis is quite small but there are so many different animals and interesting things to see in a very good layout we easily passed 3.5hrs with no problem. All in all, well recommended, we all (2 adults and two boys 7&4) loved it.
