We were visiting Melton for the day and called in to the White Lion. Had an excellent roast dinner which was a special at £6.95. The meat and vegetables were excellent and service excellent as well. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Would strongly recommend it.

My sister and I went into the white lion for some lunch this afternoon and we couldn’t believe the state of the place. The toilets were disgusting, they smelt awful, were not clean at all and even had broken glass in the sinks. This was at 1.30 in the afternoon which indicates it hadn’t been cleaned from the evening before we presume. After complaining that it didn’t feel like a place we could eat, we were rudely told by the waiter that the food had already started being cooked so we couldn’t leave it. After swallowing this and going back to our table, we noticed a bug in my sisters straw; (this wouldn’t usually be an issue but after seeing the toilets it was the final straw) (pardon the pun). We even offered to pay for the food and drinks so that we could just leave to eat elsewhere but nevertheless the waiters attitude was appalling and made us feel silly for leaving, claiming he was very busy to deal with the toilets when there were actually only 3 other tables in the restaurant. Won’t be coming here again.

The days of drinking in Melton are dead. The White Lion used to be a good laugh of a venue when I first started venturing out onto the streets on Melton. But over the years, with different management and owners, it has sunk to its darkest hour. I live in Birmingham and have also worked in pubs over the years and to the point of disbelief, I do not understand how this bar is still actually open. The staff were mistreated by a cash hungry owner, we were being lied to about a card machine not working (some staff let us use it?, whereas the owner insisted it wasn't working), all drinks were being charged differently, the local staff who I know were doing a normal job, but the owner and family who I am not familiar with were free pouring away. There was no draught pop, all cans and bottles so the business is clearly in trouble, and no wonder. State of a bar, a disgrace to Melton, I would advise going early doors to the amazing pubs in this town, not this place of utter hell.

Food was excellent, we were a huge group but still all served in a decent time..staff were friendly and provided a good service. Pricing was surprisingly excellent, and the beer/spirits selection was good. Overall a pretty good place for Italian food.
