Based on a couple of bad reviews here, students and parents were terrified to stay here. I must admit, as a teacher, I was also quite nervous. So here follows a trustworthy review from a high school teacher from the Netherlands. We’ve stayed at Kingswood for 4 days Accommodation: As Kingswood is an old police training building, it comes with the usual problems old buildings have. Besides that, whoever runs the cleaning team is not playing at the top. A quick swipe and mob and done. Sticky stuff on the floor isn’t removed and also the bathrooms are rarely checked. On a poster it said: every other day, but that sure didn’t happen. One toilet didn’t flush and wasn’t fixed. Some rooms had heating that couldn’t be turned off, some rooms had no heating. Showers and bathrooms had normal doors and could be locked. There was one shower with a milky window, they freaked out about that, but in my opinion that was a lot of drama. Nobody could see through that glass . Students in my buildings slept in bunk beds in rooms of two or six. Bedding and sheets were fine. Mattresses were firm but not hard. It was not noisy so we could actually get a decent sleep. Teacher rooms were fine too with a personal bathroom and water cooker. Staff: There’s always someone present at the front desk which is good. When we arrived we were welcomed by our activity team for the week. They stayed with us until we were all settled in our rooms and they showed us around. Staff overall was friendly and professional. Some of them were more energetic then others, however someone told me take sometimes make shifts over 12 hours. Food: No matter what everyone says in the reviews: the food is great! Portions are good and there’s fresh salad every day. There’s even dessert! I think when students say that the food is bad they expect either Mac Donald’s or their favorite home cooked meals. The food at Kingswood offers meat and vegan options, usually potatoes or rice and vegetables. Every child could have a healthy filling meal here. The only problem for us teachers was that there was no good coffee around the place only instant or tea. If you would roll a barista food truck in there you could make a lot of money . Activities: When you book the trip, you can book activities for day or evening. Those were okay. Students found the 3G swing the best. Maybe the activities are usually aiming at a lower age group. I would definitely not recommend the disco. It only lasts an hour and is just to early and short for 15 year olds. Maybe campfire is a better option instead. So…would I send my own child to Kingswood? Definitely, I think it’s good that kids learn that not every accommodation is a 5-star hotel. Our students learned to deal with it and encouraged each other to be positive. That is also part of a school trip. Stars per item: Cleanliness: Rooms: Activities: Food: Staff: Safety: Picture 1: student room Picture 2: teacher room Picture 3: sport field Sorry I didn’t take more pictures, but the but it’s not at the top of my mind during a busy week with the students .
Do Not Send Your Children Here!! My son went to Kingswood with his college for a 5-day 4-night trip, well on day 3 I went to get him at his request, he describes it as boot camp and prison-like! The bedding provided sheets and duvet were dirty yellow urine stained, the mattress was so hard and lumpy he barely slept both nights, and both his and his dorm mate’s beds were infested with bedbugs! The showers were barely working and cold! The toilets were filthy and there was no privacy or security when showering just a thin curtain. There was lots of loud noise from other guests going on most of the night, other guests running up and down, kicking and knocking on doors till late. Broken door latch so again no security for them or their belongings. Food was bland and barely edible, he was given pink chicken one meal! The place is uninhabitable, unhygienic, and not fit for purpose, if we had read some of the reviews we have since found he wouldn’t bothered going. The only thing he enjoyed was the activities but the poor conditions of the living areas, dirty infested beds, under cooked food, and general uninhabitable conditions ruined everything else. Waste of money, time and in my opinion should be shut down.
My son went for NCS 5 day 4 nights residential trip to Kingswood Grosvenor in Autumn break. He returned very happy from the trip. Enjoyed every activity there. Everything was neat and tidy, unlike the comments we read before going. He got Halal food. Prayer room was provided. Everything was just perfect. Highly recommended for sixth form students. Everybody was helpful.
Definitely a mixed bag experience - but going here was an experience in itself. The food isn’t too bad breakfast is the best and the activities are fun enough. You make a lot of friends too, but based on personal experience the fire alarms are a bit too sensitive
It was fine. The food was bland, pretty bad but what do you expect? The activities were pretty good. The guy with glasses who mainly does puzzle solving was great. The other staff? They weren't very good. Mattresses had STAINS with yellow and red stuff. Then the worst- the showers. There have been many bad choices in the world. But it BAFFLES me that they decided to NOT put a DOOR on a SHOWER. I mean, what were they thinking??? The only thing separating someone from seeing you is a THIN SEE THROUGH CURTAIN. Horrible
Beautiful place. Has tons of buildings, a lake... And its surrounded by nature. Very easy to arrive from Ashford train station. The atmosphere in the place is great for trainings/academics... I was there 10 days doing a course of audiovisuals and it was great
My kid went there as a reward from school. Facilities were basic as expected. The odour in the room was disgusting. Food was not very healthy... Although the whole experience was good and enjoyable.
Stains on the walls and bedding, and cockroaches in the shower areas. Two of the main activities not on for a beautiful Saturday afternoon with no reasons
My daughter went to the ashford branch for an end of year 8 residential. She called me every night and told me how much she wanted to come home - and how bad kingswood was. For nearly £300, she was given a breakfast which was barely edible, with dirty cutlery and activities you could set up in the garden at home with a few exceptions. She told me the dorm rooms were absolutely tiny, 3x3 metres, with stains all over the mattresses. The rooms were very hot, as the windows only opened a few centimetres. The showers, had see through curtains, which from the outside made you blurry. From the pictures she sent me, the whole place was so run down and unorganised, dirty and unfriendly talking about the barbed wire fences all around the perimeter. Not worth my money, avoid this place at all costs.
Amazing experience, would 100% come again, loved the whole experience
