Marvellously medieval day out. We visited during a reenactment weekend and were thoroughly educated and entertained. Good parking free to English Heritage which is close to the castle. Staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. We had a good wander around the ruins, grabbed a coffee and thoroughly enjoyed the shows. There are plenty of grounds to walk around, you can also climb up the keep or sit in the stable cafe for a sandwich and drink.
An amazing experience. Another English Heritage site that delivers beautifully. If not a member please make sure you look it up. There was a medieval festival at the time we visited with over 350 people putting on a grandiose event. There were so many new things to learn about the old days. Embroidery, cooking, hunting, medicine, archery, forging and many many more. Re-enactment of battles, court jester having a fire show, medieval music etc. And if this was not enough you can visit the keep, the gardens and the gatehouse, all beautifully presented. There is a tea room with little choice of food, but of course you can bring your own picnic. Toilets were sufficient for the amount of people on site and they were very clean. Definitely 100% recommended
A superb day out. Really very friendly helpful and informative staff. Dog friendly. Nice cafe. Great ice cream. But most important the castle and grounds. It really makes a whole day out with a large castle ruin to explore, walks and pleasant picnic area.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Beautiful castle grounds and easy to get to. You get to go inside some of the older structures and the state they are in is fascinating. You can see the old wooden beam holes and how they constructed the floors, windows, and doors. The scale of the rooms is something you don't easily get until you go inside. Beautiful to just walk around even if you don't care about history.
Excellent half day out. Easy to get to. Staff extremely friendly, helpful and informative. Café has a lovely selection of food, cakes and drinks and more than enough seating inside and out. The new access stairs and platforms are a fantastic addition giving a wonderful new perspective of the castle. Parking was limited but if you get there early there is more than enough. Only complaint is the lack of toilet facilities. Allow enough time to queue if you need to go.
Loved Kenilworth Castle. It may be ruins but a system of stairs have been put in so that you can walk up to the top of them and get a sense of the scale of the building. Lovely place to visit. Nice gardens and a lovely place to take a picnic. The guides offer talks at set times and are full of enthusiasm. Would recommend.
Re-enactment event taking place when we visited. Absolutely brilliant, all the participants stayed in character the whole day! Beautiful castle with so much history, lots of information provided - audio tour not available because of event. Added bonus was the Elizabethan garden and aviary. Well worth a visit.
English Heritage ran property, with fabulous ruins and a tea room. Parking is pay and display. Worth walking off to the left when you first arrive to view the castle from afar before getting your ticket and heading in. You can walk up some of the towers to view the ruins from above which is very cool not all staircases were open at the time of writing - Jan 2023. As usual with English Heritage properties, lots of useful noticeboards giving you the history of the area. Check their website for opening hours.
Fabulous place. Very interesting, very photogenic, very well preserved, very nice chatty staff and the cafe is excellent. Lots of places to sit and rest for people like me who are not as energetic as some other people. I loved the entire experience.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
A lovely castle, gatehouse, and Elizabethan gardens. Information boards telling you the history. The ice-cream van had shut as we visited at the end of the day, but the cafe inside the stables was open.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 min
