Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena

Story

The Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena was located within the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland. It hosted many athletics competitions including the 1990 European Athletics Indoor Championships and the Glasgow International Match since 1988.HistoryBuilt in the West End of Glasgow, near the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the Kelvin Hall was completed in 1927. It was originally used to house large scale exhibitions, including the Industrial exhibitions of the Festival of Britain in 1951. Over the decades it has also hosted motor shows, modern homes exhibitions and the world-renowned Kelvin Hall Circus. Lions, tigers and African elephants all thrilled Glaswegians for years and many to this day can remember that distinctive aroma when walking round the carnival after their circus visit. In 1988 a new arena for sports opened within it as did the Museum of Transport.Current Kelvin HallHowever once the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre opened, the building needed modernisation and became home to the International Sports Arena. The Kelvin Hall housed an indoor international sports arena, which hosted many international athletic events, as well as boxing, and badminton competitions. The venue was the home arena for Glasgow Rocks who compete in the British Basketball League. The Rocks played at 1,200 capacity Kelvin Hall from 2008 to 2012, following a move from the Braehead Arena. The team has moved to the 5,000-capacity Commonwealth Arena from the 2012-13 season.

Only gripe is how they handle end of session. Started setting up metal sides for tennis/badminton on the court while play was still in progress. Very unsafe.
Not been here for some time and the place has be refurbished since the last time I visited many years ago. The building is of course magnificent. I came here not for the sports but the museum collections. Housed in the Kelvin Hall is a collection resulting from a partnership between the National Library of Scotland and other Glasgow museums. Kelvin Hall now provides a shared collections storage facility with public access called the Kevin Hall Open Collection. So now housed in this one building are the National Library's digital and moving image collections, collections from the Hunterian and other Glasgow Museums. Nice place to to spend an afternoon of eclectic museum collections
Great collection of different subject areas. Really interesting time at the museum. Thank you.
Probably the only chance to see what was billed as the most complete 67 million year old t rex skeleton in the world, there was lots of interactive exhibits which my daughter enjoyed and there was lots of information about t rex , the entry fee was really steep, I paid £22 for me and my 6 year old daughter, £14 for an adult and £8 for a child, there was no free parking either
This place is amazing. Coming here since last 6 years. Joined the gym few months ago. Its a amazing place but i think they do lack some equipment's, i.e.- skipping ropes etc. Despite that, a very nice clean place.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Great class BUT omg they really really need to employ some cleaner for cleaning the toilets they were filthy todayVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Great gym very well kitted out especially for a council gym or any gym for that matter.
Amazing facilities and nice spacious gym. Easily one of the nicest gyms I’ve ever been in. Staff are very helpful and friendly too
Really great centre with a vast range of sports and activities to do. Fantastic gym with modern and varied equipment.
Looks brilliant since the refurbishment. I Love how they have tried to mix culture and sport into this facility. I enjoy looking at the artifacts down the corridor as I go to work out. Staff have been great and the equipment top notch.
