Food of good quality, nothing food wise stuck out as amazing or unique but everyone was satisfied with their dish. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Place is a bit dated inside however they said they have been around for 50 years so regulars probably don't mind this as long as the food is good.
After looking for a nice meal in Southsea we had no other choice to go this restaurant with no costumer inside. Despite all doubt we had about the quality or taste, all our foods were so nice and fresh and tasty. The elderly Asian guy was absolutely kind and friendly. Just a bit of improvement on toilet facilities and the cleanliness would be appreciated. Thanks
My family have been going to this restaurant for over 40 years when my mum was first teaching my dad to drive and her reward was to get an indian meal half way through the ordeal. We've been back many, many times and it's consistently excellent. Great sized portions, soooo tasty and good value. The service is exemplary. We' ve known the one great uncle since the 70's, though sadly he's retired from service now. Thank you for doing such a great job, and we look forward to future visits at our favourite indian restaurant. I'd have no hesitation to recommend this place to anyone.
Not a great welcome, felt as if we were inconveniencing the staff by ordering food. Although warm, the tastes were a bit lacking for what was ordered. Even when asked if the staff actually wanted us there, they didn't sound convincing. Overall, mildly acceptable for a drunken curry.... But won't be rushing back because of the service or food.
If i had a chance to give it zero stars i would, lots of reviews here from people who don't have a clue what real Indian food tastes like and probably don't care. We went there only because everywhere else was fully booked on a Friday night, The dishes we tried were full of oil and the meat was out of date and probably a bit stale making it tough and difficult to chew. If this is the best Indian Portsmouth has to offer then I'm sorry folks please go on you tube and make it yourself.... Sorry for the rant but I'm trying to save you some money.
My favorite Indian restaurant, it's a real traditional restaurant and I believe Portsmouth's oldest. The food is always delicious and very reasonably priced. If you're expecting fancy waiters and decor this isn't the place for you, but if you like good no nonsense Indian food then it most certainly is!
Haven't been to this restaurant for a number of years as live too far away. Food and service still very good. Excellent value. Would highly recommend. Palmerston road now pedestrianised so pleasant for a walk after.
The food here is exceptionally good and remains one of my favourite restaurants in the UK. My most recent visit was in Jan 2016. My first visit was in 1976, with visits at least every few years in between. They achieve tastes and flavours with my favourite dishes that other restaurants simply fail to attain. I mean several dozen other good Indian restaurants, throughout the UK. I'm sorry to read that L Qadir was ill but was this a genuine review 1* or just a spoiler? The service has always been good or excellent, in my experience, with no problems whatsoever over a period of 40 years. Highly recommended.
Staff were rude. Pushing us to order more and then asked us to pay by cash, we refused as we are travelling so only have a international card. Food - okay. Nothing amazing, bland flavour. Won't return.
Hello There, We found this restaurant last weekend on Saturday evening whilst we were just walking around the city. 2 of us went and we ordered Alo Keema, Tandoor Chicken, Jalfarezi Vegitables, Parathas etc. Their sense of humor was so dreadful, toilets were just outside the restaurant near kitchen, the food was terribly bad, I and a friend of mine who was with me were both sick on Saturday night. We had one of the worst Saturday nights ever after their food. If it was just me, i might blame the weather, but it was definitely the food Chicken was either dead, very old and/or expired. Raitaa Chatni was very old and salad in general was disgusting. It was the worst place ever. I will never recommend this restaurant who are looking for a good asian restaurant in Portsmouth. No!!!!
