Have had a look at others’ reviews following my experience at Kanishka and it appears that owners of any dining vouchers I had a TimeOut one are treated completely differently to full paying customers. That is not to say the staff treated us badly, they were all very friendly and welcoming. However, we were sat downstairs in the empty, dimly lit part of the restaurant rather than the bright, spacious upstairs. The dishes were tasty but maybe a little bit disappointing given our expectations of this meal; for example the plain boiled rice that came with the main dishes or the pea cakes that came on, what looked like, a bed of baked beans. For two of us, we probably ended up spending a total about £120 on this dinner with a bottle of wine which I think is still enough to warrant the higher quality of food that I expected.
One of the best dining experiences in London! Had a lovely perfect anniversary dinner yesterday night. Service was attentive and considerate. Food was phenomenal and incredibly flavorful. We had the five course tasting menu which was a very reasonable price for its quality, taste and portions. We were also given complimentary drinks and a small anniversary cake. Thank you for accommodating a beautiful evening!
Welcoming atmosphere and helpful staff. The space was attractive and well lit. The nation's we ordered were nice and well cooked but a little plain. Overall probably not worth the money. The dessert was a whole different story. Absolutely fantastic. The peanut parfait was balanced and not sickly. A great combination of flavours. Particularly the little bursts from the fennel seeds. The coconut mishti pancakes were phenomenal. Layers of flavour and texture and playing perfectly together.
This is fine dining at it's very best, all created by one of my favourite chefs Atul Kochhar who was there in person to greet the guests. The tasting menu was beautiful, just make sure you are hungry as after several amazing dishes, the main then comes with rice, daal & naan! There is however a smaller tasting menu on offer. Each dish is perfectly spiced with North Indian cuisine at the heart of it. If you want to try authentic Indian flavours turned into fine dining then you will not get any better!
We had one of the best Indian fine dining in London. The ambience was awesome, we were greeted by smiling faces and the service was brilliant. We tried the set menu for our lunch and ordered some nibbles and sides as well. The non alcoholic king's enigma and passion fruit martini cocktails were really good with enough punch. For first course, we chose the baked mackerel and veg tikki and some fried chicken momo. They just fire up your taste buds. At this point, the expectations went higher for the second course, where we ordered the Chicken Kosha and the Halibut in masor tenga curry with red rice, bread basket and the signature kali daal. We were not disappointed as we felt like we are in eastern part of India and having the best quality dishes. For the third course, we tried the masala Chai creme Brulee while we were surprised by the complimentary Happy Birthday cake. Overall, really amazing place, centrally located in Mayfair just next to Oxford Circus. Would highly recommend and definitely coming back for more.
Skip the appetisers and go for the mains. The staff is very welcoming and service is warm. The Indian cuisine lends itself to vegetarian eating, so that's an easy choice. However, the ambience left me a little confused. For starters the music was French - I would have preferred a soft instrumental. Then, there was a curious case of missing spoons on the tables, which baffles me given the amount of curry in Indian food. Even for serving gravy dishes there were only tea spoons. The blotting paper under the puchkas and rotis read "Atul Kochar" which is probably fine, but felt unusual. The starters left much to be desired. The Kolkata Puchkas were more like Mumbai sev puri served in a ready-to-fry golgappa. Given the price and fanfare, I would at least have hoped for fresh cooked "wheat bubbles". The samosas in the Samosa Chaat were good, but it was missing the spicy chole chickpeas that I associate with the dish. This may be a recipe difference, but still the starters underwhelmed me. The mains however, were outstanding. The Paneer Makhana Korma was well balanced, oozing with spices and flavours without being too hot - it was mildly sweet. The makhani daal was rich and smooth. The Naan and Paratha were soft, fresh and thin, exactly right to make the meal sumptuous but not heavy. This wouldn't be my go to restaurant, but I wouldn't mind revisiting it for a tried selection.
Located in the bustling locality of Mayfair, Kanishka is worth a visit! A modern take on the north eastern Indian cuisine leaves you wanting more! There are very good options for vegetarians as well. The Michelin star cook has definitely done justice! This is definitely not a corner curry shop. Though a little expensive than normal, we went there for a special occasion & hence worth the price!
We went because this place is offering £50 until 24th February for lunch and thought why not! The atmosphere upstairs was great and it was so pretty but we were unfortunately placed downstairs where it was very secluded, small and had no real atmosphere. We got the poppadoms to start which were great, the chutneys were sweet and had a little kick to it. We got the passion fruit virgin martini which was nice. We also got the mixed grill for one, which was alright, we felt the lamb was a bit overcooked, the chicken and prawn was nice and so was the salmon. We got the butter chicken and goat for the main with bread and jasmine rice. The rice wasn’t great but the butter chicken was. We did have to wait a while for the rice and were charged twice for it this was corrected. The goat felt watered down, the bread was nice. We also got the Sana Thongba: Manipuri Paneer and Green Peas as a side which was good but lacked flavour, the highlight of it was the peas. Our meal would have probably been £120-£130 if not for the £50 off which I don’t think it is worth. It has a Michelin star but I don’t think it’s as good as Trishna in any sense really. The wait times also were not great for food. The waiter was nice but the atmosphere was dull. The waiter was nice enough to give us a take away. I feel three stars is fair.
Recently had a lovely meal at Kanishka, the whole experience was delightful. My partner and I opted for the tasting menu and boy did it deliver. Nothing on the menu was overly hot but it was beautifully spiced and just the right amount of heat where needed. Each course seemed to flow nicely and we were definitely not left wanting by the time we'd eaten. Easily one of the best Indian meals I've had. Won't hesitate to return.
Five of us went for a mid-week dinner and everyone loved the food and service was good. We ordered a la carte and had plenty to eat c.£80 pp with wine. Only small crticism is that the tables are quite small and close together. I particularly liked that the vegetarian menu was so extensive. It was a birthday meal and the staff surprised us with a small cake and candle, which was a lovely touch! Vegetarian options: Excellent and plentiful vegetarian options.
