I broke down on the A1 with my wife and two children late at night. We weren't able to be recovered so had to get in somewhere to overnight. I rang several hotels with no luck, but managed to get through to the Hop Pole and they fortunately had a family room with a cot available. I can't thank them enough for turning a pretty disastrous night into a really pleasant stay. It's a beautiful old building with period features as well as mod-cons. The rooms are spotless, cosy and quiet. There's free parking outside and across the road. The shower had great pressure and everything you'd expect in the bathroom was provided. The next morning our cooked breakfast was spot on, and there was also a good selection of cereals. I had to hang around all day for the recovery vehicle and the landlady was so generous, offering me cups of tea whilst insisting I was no trouble, allowing me to work in a quiet room as I waited. Top notch all over, I would 100% recommend to others and it was very reasonably priced. Thanks to the team at the Hop Pole it was a positive experience and I would definitely stay again.
Absolutely beautiful building and kept to an extremely high standard of cleanliness at all times. The managers and staff are the most polite and warming people I’ve ever came across in the industry. Every time we have visited Our meals have been amazing and the service was great. Definitely will be coming back to the Hop Pole with out a doubt.
Absolutely beautiful place. The bar area is very welcoming and can imagine even more so in the winter when a nice log fire is lit. We went on a Saturday evening and was welcomed at the bar from a friendly landlord and landlady. When our food was ready we was escort to what can only be discribed as an amazing dining Room I had the hunters chicken which was served very well and made a change to get chicken that wasn't dry it was absolutely beautiful. My wife had the steak and ale pie which she said yet again was absolutely lovely. Will we go again absolutely we are even considering staying the night next time in one of their beautiful rooms
Not the best experience, all things considered. We got locked inside the hotel for 25 mins one morning, between two auto locking doors, for which our key card didn't work. We tried ringing the hotel to no avail. That aside, The rooms are quite small, but nice and cosy, everything works. The building is old and well kept. Breakfast finished at 9am so we never made it there, despite paying for it in advance.
We recently stayed at the Hop Pole Hotel and it was excellent. We had two double rooms and a single room I was in the single and the room was clean, beautifully decorated, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom very spacious and modern. The decor of the hotel fits in well with the building. The staff were friendly and helpful. Compliments to the chef as the breakfasts and evening meals were superb. Everybody was really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would definately stay here again and bring my husband and son as they do family rooms. Thank you for a wonderful stay, I will be back.
This venue is set in a beautiful village and location which is easily accessed from a main road A617. There is a car park opposite the hop pole hotel which is a reasonable size. The venue is of an excellent standard which is very welcoming and comfortable. Various seating areas are available in different rooms adding to the abience of the venue. A lovely outdoor seating area is situated to the rear of the venue which is private and peaceful. They offer buffet catering for various occasions which is outstanding. The bar offers a very good range of ale which are not the usual brands in pubs. Prices are very good and the standard is high. A very relaxing atmosphere where you can enjoy you time.
This was a nice property to stay at when we visited Sherwood Forest for the Robin Hood Festival. The room was cozy and had a boutique feel although the mattress on the twin bed in the family room had a bit of a sink in the middle. I really liked all the quirky little common areas, particularly a sitting room they had with a massive fire and a medieval feel to it. Breakfast was good - albeit it extraordinarily slow. We were in no rush and took it in stride. It's not always a terrible thing, being forced to slow down and just enjoy a lovely morning. There's a great lawn area in the back for kids to run around. I noticed several tables outside that weren't cleared for a good couple of hours, which is why I'm knocking off a star in addition to the sloped mattress. From a hygienic standpoint that isn't ideal, but is certainly forgivable. Overall a very nice place for families on a quiet weekend away.
Rooms are of a really good size and beds are comfortable. Staff are friendly too. Breakfast portion on the Choose your own option was a little small, but other than that I can't fault it. The shower holder in our room wasn't the right one for the shower head so drenched most of the bathroom, but easily rectified
Rooms are nice, clean and comfortable and staff are welcoming. WiFi isn't available in the top floor rooms and there's no TV in the rooms. Bar doesn't take card payments below £20 so make sure you have some cash.
Sunday lunchtime service very slow - short staffed? Staggered to see that the hotel will not take cards for food and drink. Extremely limited choice of beers - Samuel Smith's own products - acquired tastes, but very cheap! Whole place looks tired & in need of a radical makeover, in my opinion.
