A great place to visit. The history of the mine is interesting enough but what the family who reopened it in the recent past have accomplished is truly amazing. If your visiting at least do the mine tour, but for the more adventurous the extra activities are well worth experiencing. Some nice walks from the mine as well. We used the 77 or 77A bus from Keswick which allows views of the pass not easily seen when concentrating on the road, well worth considering.
What a day!! We opted for the "climb a mine" experience and it was worth every penny! The whole experience lasted about 2 hours. There were climbs, rope ladders, metal ladders, zip lines, tarzan swings. The works. Very well thought out. Safety was a priority and you finish on top of the pass with fantastic views down the valley. The location has plenty of parking, a shop and a cafe. Would definitely recommend it
Incredible experience! We took part in the “climb the mine” experience - the views heading up there were incredible and the whole experience was very exciting! The host was extremely helpful and it was extremely cool to see within the mines! The only downsides were arriving 30 minutes early was not necessary and the experience only took 1.5 hours when it was stated as 2.5hrs online! Would definitely be attempted to return
We did the infinity bridge and the mine tour. Infinity bridge- you are kitted up, driven part way up the mountain, you walk/climb. Then you go across the rope bridge and walk back via one of the underground tunnels it isn't long or very deep if you're claustrophobic Gary and Elliot I believe were the staff Mine Tour - you get kitted up helmets/torches, you watch the introductory video or talk depending on your guide. The video provided alot of history and allows you to see the owner who reopened Honsiter who has sadly died. You then get the bus up the mountain and begin the tour. We did 2 levels within the mine. I wouldn't recommend if claustrophobic. The final section of the tour you watch a video within the mine in a big cavern area and then the bus drives you back down. The guide was great, lots of puns and dad jokes. I can't remember his name but He speaks in the video. Paul?
Had a family trip to Honister yesterday, booked the 5 of us on the mine tour. The tour was brilliant, made all the more special by Rolly or Roland depending which end of the country you were from. The experience down the mind was mind blowing, thoroughly recommend the day out.
Very convenient car park which is already fairly high up, about 332 metres. Gives great access to Dale Head, Fleetwith Pike, Hay Stacks and also up to Great Gable. Ha yes.... there's also a slate mine here too...never been in, I just use the car park. Cost £5 for all day and £10 for over night... you just pay in the shop.
I highly recommend to visit this place because of views and history. The Honister slate mine in Cumbria is last working slate mine in England. You can get here from M6 motorway through Honister Pass but it's quite challenging route with many narrow roads. Views are stunning
Great experience, it took around an hour to complete the whole thing. Very safe throughout but even in the easy Ferrata option there are moments in which your hands sweat a lot, you may want to buy climbing gloves to have a better grip. View is breathtaking once on the top. Our guide Gary explained everything on the history of the mine and was always available to help us during the most challenging passages of the experience. Highly recommended.
Amazing place. Friendly helpful staff. The weather wasn't great but we had a fantastic time doing the classic via Ferrata. Our guide was great she told us lots of facts and was always giving encouragement she even remember everyone's name . We will back to try all the other activities
Great little cafe at the slate mine. Worth a visit with stunning views! Big car park and a slate shop, plus small museum.
