Took my dog molly in to be seen after various symptoms of a Pyometra uterus infection the reception lady was lovely when I explained I had a budget of £300 until the following week but as soon I entered the treatment room the vet made me feel like absolute scum for not being able to afford £90+ for the initial consultation, £380 on the spot for an ultrasound, and £224 for medication. She was nothing but arrogant and rude to both me and my grandma and it was so obvious she couldn’t wait to get me and my dog out of the door. We were sent home with painkillers for her and after taking her to PDSA pet hospital in Leeds we have been told she was incorrectly dosed and now this maybe life threatening. She is having full abdominal surgery because the infection has been left, I understand you can’t help patients if they haven’t got the money but the least you could do is be honest so people can actually receive the help they need.
Misdiagnosis and Unacceptable Service I recently had a deeply concerning experience at Holmefield Veterinary Clinic, Brayton branch, which I feel compelled to share. My dog, Evie, presented with brown discharge, frequent urination, and foul-smelling urine. Despite these symptoms, she was otherwise well in herself. The vet examined her and performed an ultrasound, diagnosing her with Pyometra and recommending an emergency surgery costing approximately £2500. Feeling uneasy about the rushed recommendation and high cost, I sought a second opinion from another vet. The second vet allowed me to be present during the ultrasound and showed me that Evie did not have Pyometra but rather bladder stones. This misdiagnosis from Holmefield Veterinary Clinic could have led to unnecessary emergency surgery, significant expense, and left the actual issue untreated. When I approached Holmefield Veterinary Clinic for a refund and an explanation, they acknowledged my complaint but stated that a thorough investigation could not be completed immediately. While I appreciate the need for a detailed review and accept the delay, overall the clinic's initial response and handling of my dog's condition fell far short of acceptable standards. They have sidestepped the request for a refund twice, and while I appreciate the investigation will take longer. The refund should have been processed and acknowledged. This experience has eroded my trust in Holmefield Veterinary Clinic. Pet owners deserve accurate diagnoses, responsible recommendations, and immediate resolution when errors occur. I urge others to consider this experience when choosing a veterinary service.
I've been coming her for many years with my dogs, but the overcharging, quality of reception and vets is dropping, some vets have a very arrogant attitude. Some are just a bit useless and there's no warm greeting. Just one older vet, and one new receptionist stands out although the Scottish lady isn't too bad. I think it's time we took our business elsewhere.
Brought my cat in due to irritation in her mouth. Vet couldn't see anything wrong. Gave her pain relief without addressing underlying issues. Cost £90 . Pointless exercise. Been here for years. Gone to to a different vet who examined her teeth and found inflammation. What was was the point in masking the the problem with pain relief. Wasted £90, rip off
disgusted at their ability to escalate and emergency and happy to leave a dog to suffer over night, thanked i used my initiative and rang the emergency vets myself to find my dog had not been refereed correctly by holmefield but they could see him straight away, swift emergencies went above and beyond to treat my distressed dog
Expensive yes, but it was the arrogance of the lady and how uncomfortable she made me feel. Terrible experience. Dog Geff yelped in pain for his usual anal glands expressing and he's never done that before. Only going to the vets as it's close to my home.
Daisy went in to be spayed and I couldn't of asked for a more friendly and informative consaltation. She was excellently looked after and I was kept well informed of her progress. Best vet's I've ever been to. Thank you.
I use both the Brayton and Sherburn in Elmet branches for the care of my Labrador and always find this practice friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. Highly recommend and a big thumbs up from me and Ernie!
What a pleasure it is to deal with these vets. Friendly warm kind and knowledgeable. I've dealt with other vets over the years who simply seem to be more interested in fobbing you of with pills and getting you to keep coming back. Not the case with holmefield vets. They listen and talk things through. Not just pill pushers whose only concern is profit. Thank you again for all the care and dedication you give to the animals and there humans at your surgery can't really add anything else to this review . Another visit and a helpful discussion on future treatment of longterm illness
We've brought our dog Ozzy here a few times recently. He didn't have the best time after his jabs, and we've been back twice since, but the vets have been great with him, even though he wasn't a massive fan about where that thermometer was going!! I was most pleased that on Saturday 3rd that you guys stayed open for my Mrs to bring him in to see you. He seems to be improving since the meds!!
