Lovely garden centre lots of great plants, very good fresh cooked food in the cafe. Soft play area for children. There Christmas decorations were some of the best in the area well worth a visit

This is a magical place tucked away on a hill where you can browse plants and flowers or all the usual garden products, also furniture, sweets and nick knacks in a surprising atmosphere of peace. Get a coffee and cake or a hearty meal and relax. Staff friendly and quite knowledgeable particularly outside staff on gardening. I love to cycle here and back from Witney. But avoid main road route as cars go very fast along it. Cycle via poffley end and Ramsden.

Should have lowered my expectations before going here, after already noticing that most of the reviews are concerned with the cafe. It’s meant to be a garden centre! Okay, so every place you go these days has a cafe chucked in the corner - I get it, I work in a similar industry - food and coffees make (little) money and bring people in to hopefully spend more. But where’s the GARDEN CENTRE? Previous reviews aside, I gave it a go seeing as I was getting tired of the same 5-6 garden centres I usually go to. Firstly, I hope you’re not precious about your cars suspension because it will be ruined when you drive up the pokey lane way riddled with potholes. Pretty sure something’s gone permanently wrong with my car after that - don’t worry though, the laneway to get out again is slightly better. Good points: staff were nice. Well, the one at the till who spoke to me was very nice. Other staff I saw throughout the store looked up but said nothing. There’s a soft play area for kids which I guess is good if you’re a kid? Not quite sure what it’s doing in a garden centre and why you’d give up that amount of space when you could use it for, oh I don’t know, garden related things? Walking in, it feels quite enclosed - it was a sunny day but as soon as you’re inside it feels dull and a lot less airy and spacious as you’d expect from a garden centre. Lots of seeds and bulbs etc, some cheap and some premium, that’s all good. Went to find the actual plants - via the screaming children in their foam cage - and outside, to find the plants a little sparse and many of them in less than average condition. Their pricing was okay but seeing plants that looked like they were about to die completely put me off. There was plenty of space for a great variety, but not all the space was being used and some of the plants were presented multiple times, giving the impression there’s not much to see here. By the time I got back indoors I wasn’t interested in looking at anything else - the cafe everyone seems to rave about - if a Garden Centre Cant keep plants alive I’m not sure I want to find out how they handle food. Bought some seeds and made a swift exit, popped over to Burford Garden Co instead - opposite end of the garden centre scale but a lot could be learned and improved if the Hilltop crew did some competitive shopping. All in all, less garden centre, more ‘trying to be all things to everyone but not getting it right’.

Disappointed with cafe food. I had fish cakes which were tasty but it came with a mountain of iceberg lettuce, 4 bits tomatoes and few slices cucumber plus tasteless coleslaw. As it was expensive I expected at least chips or veggie crisps. My daughter had jacket potato but found the cheese to also be tasteless.
