Fantastic library, great to see this lovely Victorian building thriving with so many services being offered under one roof in a great location. Thank you to all the great staff working there - keep up the good work!
Nice place for family, lots of books, toys and activity. The space upstairs is huge and bright with sunlight from big windows! I love it.
We had a fantastic experience of the collection service during covid restrictions. I called to ask for a selection of age specific books helping our toddler with phonetics. I was very impressed with the selection offered and how much I was listened to to help find the appropriate books for our daughter. Excellent service, thank you
I found the midwifery service upstairs far more difficult to access than expected solely because the receptionist wouldn't let me through to see the midwife without abandoning my pushchair near the stairs. I was nine months pregnant with a one year old in tow. It also meant the pushchair was unattended and out of sight. I was the only person using the midwifery service at the time so it was hardly necessary to make me abandon the pushchair and there was ample space in the centre to maintain a clutter-free corridor. This has really deterred me from using this service even though midwives who come to the house have done their best to persuade me that going there is better than waiting in all day. I now have a double pushchair, a one week old and a one year old. Will I go again? No!
What a nice place with friendly staff
Staff at the library are very helpful and friendly, great place to take a toddler and older children. Very convenient place for midwife and health visitor appointments.
Wonderful little library, very friendly staff, very good location، good amount of computers
Change your bloody opening times online to avoid soaking wet disappointed parents and children turning up at 4pm on a Friday and finding the building locked. It will take you less than 5 minutes to make this simple edit.
Highfield Library is my local library. It is situated at the end of London Rd, before Mount Pleasant Park. The building is over 100 years old, and I presume that it was an education establishment. It has two floors, with the main library downstairs and the childrens library upstairs. Because of its age the ceilings are high while the windows are narrow. This creates an open space thats in perpetual darkness. As such it relies on artificial lighting, and at the moment the lighting is fluorescent; so everything has a green cast. The library was refurbished recently and along with new carpets and extra comfy reading chairs they have installed a disabled access lift to the childrens library. They've introduced self-service borrowing machines; which are neither here nor there. The main improvement is with the computers, the corner space has been specifically designed to house them, with the printer positioned in the middle of the space. oh, and most importantly the staff are tbh some of the friendliest librarians i've ever met & I have met a few.
The staff are wonderfully helpful, the library has so many good books and DVDs, and is a pleasant place to visit.
