Great little restaurant! It’s been a while since we’ve been here so thought we’d make a trip. Service was friendly and prompt. Food was good and plentiful loved the crispy beef wasn’t so sure on the battered ribs.
The food was absolutely excellent and beautifully presented. The braised aubergine looked particularly impressive. We can also recommend the pak choi, the salt and pepper potatoes delicious as a side, perhaps a bit greasy for a main and the tofu with sticky plumb sauce. We sat on a table for two near to the front. People going by and coming through the door nearby slightly affected the ambience, which is why I have given four stars instead of five. The staff were friendly and polite and the service was delivered in a timely fashion. The braised aubergine is the doughnut-shaped feast for the senses pictured below.

Went here with two of my friends. Absolutely loved the food. Great price but honestly one of the best meals out we've ever had. Vegan friend loved the tofu with plum sauce and everything was so well cooked. There was more food than we could finish and the service was impeccable. Lovely atmosphere too. Couldn't have asked for anything more!
Always great food and prices are reasonable. Portion sizes are large and you always get far more than expected. They're also happy to make alterations to items on menu such as not including chilli where possible. It's quite small inside so booking at peak times is definitely recommended, somewhere we have visited often and have never been disappointed. Service is attentive and there's never a long wait. Like many places in the area, drinks are on the pricier side
Walked past during the day, seemed busy but wasn't too sure. However I am so glad we booked a table for that evening. We were welcomed into a bustling cozy restaurant, asked to wait while our table was made ready - but given free prawn crackers and had our drinks order taken. Once at our table the food came which was fantastic, great quality, very tasty and large portions. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and found the other people dining friendly and charry. Next time I'm in Newcastle I'll be re-visiting this place for sure. Thanks for the lovely evening guys.
My second visit here. Great food. The menu caters for everyone. Friendly staff. I can really recommend Hei Hei. It's one of my favourite Chinese restaurants. I will be back! Visited again this week, had the banquet for 2 at £27/head. I must say that I was most impressed with the quality of the food. The portions were generous to say the least and overall it's more than worth it. The staff are very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The service was nice and relaxed as well. One of the best Chinese restaurants I've eaten in.
My wife and I ate here for the happy hour menu, the food was great but the service was lacking a little considering there were loads of staff and only about 4 tables! no tip involved this time. I will eat here again because I like the food and the staff are friendly enough but please pay attention to your clients, we shouldn't have to ask for our drinks and no one asked us if we needed anything else. 4 stars because the food is lovely.
I travel very often to NCL for work, and this has become my favorite place for dinner. The restaurant is clean, the staff are cheerful and the food is above expectations. I have been to China several times, and the taste at Hei Hei doesn't lack anything, instead it's a nice reminder of the country from which these exquisite dishes originate. I highly recommend it ! PS. The portions are pretty large, for 15~20£ pp you can enjoy a fabulous dinner.
Can't fault it. Good value, generous portions, delicious food, friendly and quick service. Will definitely be returning to our favourite Chinese in the city. We had: Sharing platter for 2 prawn toast, spring rolls, chicken satay, spare ribs Crispy shredded Szechuan beef Gongbo Chicken Egg fried rice
