Harris Academy Purley

Story

Harris Academy Purley is an academic secondary school in South Croydon, England. It is also part of the Harris Federation. Haling Manor High School was one of only fifteen schools in the country to be awarded specialist status as a music school.HistoryBefore becoming an 'Academy' the school was named Haling Manor High School. There were two wings to the school for many years: Pampisford Wing which was originally Croydon Secondary Technical School; and the Kendra Wing which was originally South Croydon Secondary Modern School. Origins went further back to what was Waddon Secondary School. The first headteacher of Haling Manor was a Mr. Fox (not to be confused with Richard Fox, Head of Science and Senior Master who spent his entire career at the school) and the first Deputy Head was J.R.Piper. Michael Round replaced Fox and was headmaster 1975-1996 (21 years). His then deputy, John Troake, took over, and was succeeded by Esther Bauman, until August 2009 when the school was passed to the Harris Foundation.Up until 31 August 2009, the school was a comprehensive Secondary High School. From 1 September 2009, it became part of the Harris Federation of schools, and was renamed to Harris Academy Purley, under the leadership of Carol-Anne Alcock. Alcock had previously been the headteacher at Selsdon High School.Despite its name, the school is situated in South Croydon, not Purley.

This school had its ups but the majority was down. Yesterday the Year 9's and Year 10's witnessed the most horrifying thing which should never be witnessed in a canteen which was a RAT!. Yes a Rat! and the school did nothing about it instead the next day the school was open and wasn't shut. Was your kid poisoned by this? You will never know by this school hiding this information and by them hearing it from their kids. Another information, This school is so desperate that they have employed with their federation teachers who LIE towards the students parent about things which did not happen within the class. What school has this become? The toilets have become a huge problem. Firstly the boys toilets, Is their privacy? NO. The doors are wide open so you can see if they are doing a NO1 or NO2. They have blocked nearly every toilet for the boys which makes it really hard for us to release our urine. The girls toilets have the best privacy however the student muck about with placing PADS everywhere in the toilets. Clean Environment? - I think not! I don't understand one thing which nearly every student who goes to this school will agree. What is the purpose of Student Services. Their duty is to help with those who need help. This could be if you don't know what lesson you have or if you are ill. This time you are not allowed to go to student services during break and lunch and also they lock the doors and if you need them you have to wait about a good 20 minutes. I witnessed a student service lady on the job having a private conversation while she could of helped a student get better. Another department., Student Welfare. What is even their purpose? They are supposed to deal with behaviour and deal with situations however they have failed this. Instead of doing the things about they became friends with the naughty students who cause all the fights and if the student gets in trouble e.g. the student hits a teacher. Guess What! they get away with it because of student welfare. They deal things from 1 point of view of the story not 2 but 1. I personally wouldn't send my future kids to this school because of the things above. Want them to go to hell well you know the place Harris Academy Purley. This school is desperate.

We have new teachers now and they seem to be nice. It's more of the students that affect the learning but besides that, the good school.

Education is good, however they don't have control of the pupils and seem to only care about uniform not behavior !!!!

I go to this school and I already hate it.first there is always some kind of fight or beef every day, there are so many crowds and it gets annoying so you can't get to your lessons. The teachers are nice and friendly but sometimes when I am late just 5 seconds after the gates are closed I get a 50 min detention.lots of people are going to different skl like Woodcote and more.

Has not improved since the days of Haling Manor. Would not reccomend. Any academy pumped with cash is not interested in the pupil learning but merely on controllable taegets
