Nice house, lovely gardens, excellent staff and volunteers; all very friendly and knowledgeable. Shame the walk isn't very long and some paths are quite narrow so on busy days there's not much room. You have to pay full price even if not entering the house, so not ideal to visit for dog walking.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
While the weather wasn't great Harewood House is still a great place to visit. The house is extremely impressive and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. There are also plenty of nice walks to enjoy around the gardens and land. The Church was particularly impressive. We will definitely have to visit again when the weather is nicer.
Very enjoyable and educational experience. Nice to see the trust acknowledge the source of the family wealth from the 1700's, accurate history should be taught, warts and all. Gardens and grounds are beautiful.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
We visited here on a weekend, the place is well sign posted and easy to find. There was lots going on heading towards the house, and got directed to the car park from the ticket office. We had pre-booked, so we were pretty quick. The car park was quite full, but we got parked ok. There was an overflow car park, but it was on grass. Our bus doesn’t like wet grass. The house isn’t too far from the car park, but it is up hill. Pushchairs are not allowed in the house, so my Mrs didn’t go in. It’s hard work carrying a 2 year old. Definitely something to think about as we paid for 4 adults. The house itself is stunning, inside and out. There’s loads to see, most staff were really nice and knowledgeable. The gardens are lovely, really well kept, the play park was great for our Granddaughter to loose some energy. The cafe’s were clean , as were the toilets.
Long on our list of places to visit, good to finally get here. What I didn't find so clear on any of the info was that entry at £18 each, is reduced by 50% if English Heritage members. Quite a substantial saving. I emailed Harewood House to confirm. On entry there's a very clear statement acknowledging the wealth earned from plantations/slavery, with an equally clear statement about recognising it's past and working towards a far better future. The rooms are opulent, amazing ceilings, it oozes past decadence. There is a raft of art installations throughout, varying greatly, most beyond me !! Personally I would have preferred to see the rooms furnished as they would have been, but of course, this is just personal choice, I imagine many visitors appreciated these works. The gardens are well and truly worth visiting. A lovely little ferry takes you over the lake. The Himalayan Garden is stunning. Theres also a walked garden It's a bit of a walk back up, but there are buggy buses that can give lifts if need be. Parking is close to the house and suitable for motorhomes. Plenty of tearooms, toilets etc.
A really nice house to visit. The staff have a lot of knowledge of the family history and the contents. There is a really nice cafe. Nice views looking out into the grounds of the house. Well worth a visit.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
If you take the bus to Harewood House which entails a scenic 20 minute walk to the entrance, beware BUT theres a shuttle service available so you just have to wait a little or call a number thats displayed!, you can get a ticket in for just £9! you just have to show your bus ticket. The house is huge and the interior is gorgeous BUT the gardens omg...that's where its at. I felt like I was in a scene from Pride & Prejudice or Bridgerton, absolutely gorgeous and well-kept. I didn't try it but there's a new ferry service across the lake that's free to take! there's so many sections in Harewood to visit too!! do visit if you're considering, definitely worth the time.
Very beautiful house and gardens with lots to see and do, woodland walks, church, lake, himalayan garden, very pleasant staff. We ate in the coach house, good fresh hot and tasty food, reasonably priced. Our visit, unfortunately, was on a day where the house was closed for a private function rolex, so we didn't get to go into the main part of the house, though could visit understairs which was very good. Did however manage to spend four and a half hours there, fabulous place to visit, lots for kids too, formal terrace gardens stunning. Has a shuttle and a ferry available, though we enjoyed the walk. Did take some photos, not of the food, unfortunately good fish goujon sandwich with chips to sharehomemade, skin on,wedge type at least options of eatery noted. Would highly recommend and will return to look at the rest at some point.
First time to the house and gardens. It was a shame that the colour exhibition did not include any yarn, knitting, crochet, embroidery or crewelwork items. I know it is intended and I would love to see the walled garden restored to its original glory and full of vegetables and flowers soon.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Have travelled past this place many times. Took the opportunity to visit this Monday while returning from a short stay near Pendle. A bit shocked at £18 entry fee but as we were here just paid it even though it was p……. down at this point ! It kept on showering. Firstly we walked down/ through the Himalayan area and round the lake to the walled garden some steep slopes to get down BUT well worth it about half hour to stroll there, half hour return. Ferry not operating due to conditions. Drinks in the Courtyard Cafe would be best on a warm, sunny day. Followed by entry to the House …..what a magnificent place. Brilliant decor and furniture. Followed by drinks.food in the Terrace Cafe not a lot of choice. Missed out on seeing the Church. A shuttle bus does operate around the grounds. Overall a thoroughly fantastic visit …. Will hope to be returning on a sunnier day. You can upgrade your ticket if you want for a yearly pass one …. I would do if I lived closer to the property. Thank you Harewood for making it a really lovely experience …..except for the rain ! I won’t post all the great photos I took or it will spoil the surprises for you.
