Always a treat to come to the Hanging Gate as the service is so wonderfully warm & friendly. Personnel are obviously well trained & attentive. The food is beyond delicious & portions are definitely NOT skimped on. The place has a great selection of drinks to cater for most tastes. Add in a car park & a outside space for diners when weather permits & all in all you will get the idea of why this is a favourite.
Went here with my family for a birthday tea. Food was ok portion size were big I would give it 6/10, Service 8/10, Decor 4/10. For a pub of this age it shouldn’t have cheap tatty picture on the walls of America/ Paris ect it Doesn’t suit the pub..
Nice oap Christmas dinner lovely meal plus quiz bingo and singing carols. They have the room decorated out of this world. Very enjoyable day.

Me and my husband recently hired out the Hanging Gate for a wedding reception/first wedding anniversary party. We got married during lockdown so we could only have our small ceremony at the time. Mark and the team were absolutely brilliant! we had a few meetings with them before the day and they came up with a plan that worked perfectly with our budget. They even helped us put up our decorations so it made the whole experience a lot less stressful for us. We had around 140 guests and with us having the use of upstairs as well as downstairs we had plenty of space, we even had a disco with a dance floor. Everyone had such an amazing time, if you are ever looking for a place for a party in the future I would very much recommend the Hanging Gate.
You’re coming for the decorations and ambience only. I love coming here every year. It’s traditional sad the journey here is through the hills and it’s wintry. Really gets me in the mood for Christmas. Decorations are incredible and I love it. But, the food is terrible. And I mean that. 3/10 at best. So don’t prepare yourself for a gourmet meal, or a great meal, or even average. It’s terrible. But once you accept that, and remember it’s about the ambience, you’ll enjoy it.
