Despite it being a grey day, this place was beautiful. Manageable sized rooms unlike Hampton Court with amazing colours. The kitchens also visitable and interesting. On the day we arrived I hadn't noticed although had I paid attention to the NT site I would have noticed! that the interior only open from 12, so we had to wait a bit but there is a warm cafeteria!. The crocus beds are amazing. The staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Great 1/2 day out!
I visit Ham House regularly and it is always such a pleasure. The garden is beautiful and the cafe is a lovely place to rest for a while. Even though I’ve been dozens of times I still enjoy exploring the rooms. Sometimes different ones are closed each time I visit. The house will be closed for restoration until November as far as I understand.
Lovely house tour and gardens. I especially loved the formal box garden and surrounding hedge borders. The cafe patio was very pleasant, warm and sunny. Did not buy tickets in advance, although parking was the only limiting factor as the main lot is rather small. If arriving with kids of accessibility needs I’d suggest coming during slow hours.
Beautiful house, one of the best houses on the National Trust list! Quite a big house, with opportunities to see the basement and the second floor. There also might be a line to enter the house with the amount of visitors it has. Currently, it has scaffolding so you won't be able to see the architecture as much, but would love to visit again to see the house in it's entirity! The garden is great too, and had a nice walk across the grounds. Parking is quite a while away, but free parking.
We had a wonderful day here today. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable that they really help make it a day out to remember. The house and gardens are beautiful and to think so much in the house is original. Lovely cafe tooVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
The nearest station is Richmond, which is a pleasant 20-30 minute walk along the river. Be careful not to walk too far though, as there are no signs telling you when to leave the riverside path. The gardens are lovely to walk around, especially on a pleasant summer day. Not quite enough to occupy you for a whole day, but worth spending the morning or afternoon there. At the entrance, check for details about the free garden tours.
Fantastic house and gardens! The staff and volunteers were happy, helpful and very knowledgeable. We had a tour of the gardens with a gardener, you could tell she loved her work and was passionate about the gardens; she hung around at the end to talk to people who had questions.
Lovely setting on the banks of the River Thames in Richmond. Well maintained National Trust property and environs. Take a look at the orangery with lovely climbing roses, the ice house, where the owners used to store ice throughout the year - commonly used prior to the invention of the refrigeratorice from ice house was most often used for the storage of perishable foods and for cooling the drinks or making cold desserts. Not far away are the dairy and still house yes, a distillery! After viewing the house, there's also a nice Riverside walk all the way to Richmond Bridge.
Was super duper lucky came here on a beautiful day in winter. Transportation is 10-15 mins car drive from Kingston station. Kingston town is quite lovely to visit as well after Ham House tour. The house was somehow under construction but didn’t kill its beauty. Garden was top notch, you can easily wander around for 1-2 hours. An afternoon would be good enough to see everything.
Lovely few hours spent exploring the house and grounds. Friendly staff, knowledgeable too. Only downside was the length of time it took to be served in the cafe. Stood in line for almost 30 mins, but maybe I was unlucky & it's normally much faster. Worth a visit if you're a history buff, even if you aren't!
