The Great House Hotel is home to Restaurant Tommy Heaney, winners of the Hotel Restaurant of the Year for Wales 2017. This beautiful grade II* listed building in South Wales originates from around 1550.

Story

The Great House Hotel is home to restaurant Tommy Heaney which holds the title of the Restaurant of The Year for Wales for 2017 and 2016.

The restaurant and bar are open to both residents and non-residents. Restaurant Tommy Heaney serves seasonal dishes using the best local produce.
Head Chef Tommy describes his food as honest, delicate and pure with flavour where each element on the plate has an important role to play rather than fine dining.
The restaurant has a welcoming and relaxed feel to reflect his style of cooking.

So many of the original features dating back from the early 15th century remain in the house and the Coach House which houses accommodation overlooking the beautiful landscaped garden.

Unfortunately, on this occasion, an average review. Positive: the Restaurant, wow, what can I say, excellent fresh food, excellent service, and to top it off, a set menu, 3 course for £18!! Now the Negative, when you click on the website, you see, a funky double room, nice wallpaper, nice bedding, unfortunately for me, as I found out at check out, this is a refurbished room. I was given an un-refurbished one, tired, out dated, TV, no remote, iron not working, sockets not working, shower tap not working, the double bed was in the wrong way, so the longer side was under the headboard? And me feet stuck out the bottom by a foot at least? So if you do book at this hotel, ring up and ask for a refurbished room.... And enjoy the food, it's lovely....
Yesterday, six of us had afternoon tea and we were very disappointed. £22.95 each. Not many sandwiches. Scones were hard and cold. Sausage rolls were cold and appeared shop bought. A few other items which none of us really liked. Sorry, won't be coming back
Lovely afternoon tea with family. Real treat, yummy sandwiches, delicious sweets, very friendly staff, lovely oldie worldie. Can't show sandwiches as we'd eaten them Service: 5/5
Visited the great house for cakes. The cake they served was the end off the cake. Both me and my friend ordered the same cake. We were both served the end pieces off cake which were dry. Ususally with slice cake you are served fresh slices off cake Dissapointed very
Stayed here in room one, wedding on downstairs so was told we could not use the restaurant so we went to el prado's just down the road, got back and the loud music was on till 12 midnight so a late night it was for us both, in our room the trouser press don't work, tv remote don't work, bathroom mirror light don't work, bathroom door lock don't work, would I return its a no for me sorry
Spent a delightful few hours in this lovely restaurant for my parents in law's 60th wedding anniversary. The food was excellent quality and beautifully presented. We were well looked after, 2 in the party are gluten free and there were no issues and all meals were happily adapted for us. I've got to say its the best meal I've had in a long time. I look forward to returning soon.
Stayed for a night. Good value rooms and a decent set menu. The mattress was very old and not the greatest nights sleep was had.
We attended this venue for a wedding! The rooms are ok, they aren’t really in keeping with the venue. The rooms aren’t worth what they are charging, far better places for the price. The food was OK, extremely over cooked chicken breasts! As agreed by 60% of the guests. The eggs at breakfast must have been cooked in straight vinegar rather than water with a dash of vinegar, it was over powering everything. It seems that they don’t focus on weddings as well as the general day to day food. Staff were generally helpful although there was very little co-ordination. The images are very deceiving, it’s right next to a very busy road and slabs when wet outside are slippery. It’s not an ideal wedding venue for children or babies in prams as it’s small.
Great rooms , great food and great service. Would recommend the food and choice of draught beers and cider and ambience. Nearby activities: Ogmore by sea , Southern Down all within 10mins .
Stayed there last night. From the food at restaurant and the room upstairs Room 1 I thought it was excellent and customer service was brilliant as well. Only couple of really minor issues. I had hot chocolate at night and found the cups to be on the small side and the tv remote doesn’t work that well. I would come again and recommend anyone to stay/eat.
