"The Great Eastern offers guests the best local cask ale and cold, crisp lagers and craft beers. While specialising in whiskey from America, Scotland and Ireland, we also offer a wide selection of gin, tequila and rum. As we don't have a kitchen, we are all about the drinks, and the music. We are small, so screens and game machines are not our thing, but music really is. We soundtrack our days with the best blues and country, jazz, swing, soul and rock and roll, and on Fridays and Saturdays we host some of Brighton's favourite record spinners. If you like the sound of that, we'd love to see you some time soon."

The experience at great eastern was none like any other in Brighton. The atmosphere was lovely with vinyl records playing the whole night. There is a wonderfully large selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Leo, in particular, was crucial to our positive experience. He is truly a phenomenal barman. He was attentive, friendly and chatty with us throughout our stay, offering different beverages through asking what we were feeling like. Truly a lovely affordable pub unlike any other with genuine staff tucked away in Brighton.
Top pub! Great and reasonably priced! drinks for any taste, a fantastic atmosphere and the staff are all wonderful. Leo in particular is always a pleasure to be served by, super friendly and a great laugh. The Great Eastern easily became one of my favourite pubs in Brighton and I couldn't recommend it enough!
Great pub, great staff, good music, a really eclectic mix of people, lovely vibe. Some nice tequilas behind the bar too. having worked in hospitality myself, I was very impressed by the service, the pub was very busy but at no point did anyone have to wait a long time to be served. Friendly personable staff were the icing on the cake. It's taken me 10 years of living in Brighton to visit this gem, but I will definitely be back soon
Great pub, amazing atmosphere and lovely staff! Highly recommend whether it’s to start, finish or spend the night drinking! Great selection of ales and whiskeys for everyone, great DJs on the weekends but the music is always great - Full of lots of friendly faces and just all round good vibes!
This is my favourite Brighton pub. Leo the bartender is an absolute babe and meets all of our needs on every single visit the selection of whisky and spirits is unrivalled in both price and quality. If you want a great night out in Brighton come to the Great Eastern.
One of my favourite pubs in Brighton. Last night sat at the bar and was served by Oli, Luke and Mark who were just delightful. Gave really good suggestions for drinks when I wasn't sure what I fancied. Great music on too!
Best pub in Brighton what more can I say! Every aspect is exactly what you'd want from a Brighton pub, great music all week long, especially at weekends when they have vinyl DJ's. Great staff, they are all out of this world, great selection of Whiskey's from around the world and local ales! Once you go you'll never want to leave!
Lovely cozy pub with a great selection of ales! Very dog friendly, me and my wife and pup felt very welcomed by the lovely man behind the bar called Leo! Would highly recommend!
We visited The Walrus on a Saturday lunchtime. It is a very nicely set up pub, with lots of tucked away areas. Our light lunch was excellent and the service was very good. But the beer! I tried three different lagers in the search for one that was nicely served. The head on each and every one disappeared within seconds of serving and the result was three of the most uninteresting glasses of the flattest lagers you ever saw. It would help if The Walrus used brewers glasses, kept an eye on gas levels and cared for the drink beyond just getting in in the glass and away. So many pubs get this right. The Walrus is missing a trick by not getting it right and not seeming to care about it.
Really lovely pub not far from Brighton station. Ticks all the boxes. 5 very well kept real ales often locally sourced and good value also CAMRA discount with card. Excellent, friendly staff and management who are always very welcoming. Great djs on Friday and Saturday nights. Really nice, friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.
