Don't miss this if you visit Glasgow! Scott the historian was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a personalized tour and answered all our questions. It's an absolutely beautiful and unique church with a special history and stained glass at eye-level to enjoy all the details. The Govan stones and sarcophagus are a wonderful bonus. It's also only a short walk from the subway.
Govan Old Church is an absolute MUST SEE experience for anyone visiting Glasgow. Whether you're in town for a day or a week, your time will be well spent here learning about the 1500-1700 years of history the church and its site have. One of the docents opened the Church early when he saw us standing outside and then gave us a brilliant, well-versed tour of the Govan Stones and their various histories, and symbolisms. We came here on a lark, and I think I'll be hard pressed to find a cooler spot in town to see.
I’ve had a personal connection with Govan Old Parish Church for a few years and provided drone inspection services for free for the Management Group both internal stained glass windows and exterior roof surveys, the church, Govan stones and church yard with ongoing archaeological digs makes this a must visit especially now with so much to visit in the local area a short stroll from the newly opened Govan Partick Bridge

Creat collection of early Viking hogback stones also outsting coeection of early celtic carvings, The Church is open 7 days frim 1st April to 31 October from 1pm -4pm, Guided tours are available & small gift shop at location. The Church is within easy access from Goavn subway station also bus stop and parking near by. worth a visit.
A hidden gem. Typical Victorian church with relatively modern but elaborate stained glass windows. Main attraction is the Viking sarcophagi found nearby. Background info on display or from volunteers. Only opens after 1 o'clock. Handy for picturesque tiny free Govan Ferry that goes to Riverside Museum. Graveyard also worth wandering round. Close to buses and Underground station, and local Govan worthies.
This wasn't our day, finding ourselves at a loose end near Govan we decided to visit here, but it closes at 430pm, it's a summer day, how can it close so early? They should be trying to attract more tourists. Anway a very picturesque church in a nice churchyard. It should be noted that Govan before its industry was a town independent from Glasgow and mostly idyllic and pastoral

I would highly recommend visiting this site with such a rich and ancient history. Scott the tour guide was informative, engaging and brought the story of the "Govan stones" alive. Particularly recommend a visit if interested in Scottish/ Viking / early Christian history all in the setting of beautiful church.
A hidden gem in Glasgow but worth visiting for its importance in Glaswegian history before there even was a Glasgow, or Scotland. Impressive ancient relics, knowledge guides, and a shop with unique gifts. Go pay them a visit! It's free!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
