I had a great but poor time at good hope hospital.nnCame through a&e with belly aches where the doctors felt unconcerned and a waste of time; 6 hours to be diagnosed with appendicitis.nnMy time on ward 29 was pleasant and all the staff were great and filled with love.nnAfter being discharged, it took 3 hours waiting in a tiny room for my medication which I thought was strange, and should just give patients a slip to pick it up themselves from any pharmacy.nnI felt like a lot of the staff care truly about your health and try to do their best. But you can tell the hospital struggles with communication between departments due to not having enough staff.nnCould be great if they just had more money, and more polite patients.
Both times i have visited Good Hope in the last 6 months i was seen quickly and effectively. I passed out at a local festival and was brought in via ambulance conscious and was seen within 10 minutes of arriving, discharged the same night but i was checked over quite thoroughly to make sure I was okay.nI was brought again in December after unrelatedly throwing up blood and having a fever hitting 40+. I was seen quickly and looked after by a nurse due to my age overnight as I waited for a bed, i was checked up on every 15 minutes and was given a bed as soon as one become available
I attended a&e Minor Injuries Department at Good Hope Hospital today with severe throbbing ear pain, and the service I received was excellent.nnThe doctor was extremely thorough and took the time to properly explain what was going on with my ear. He listened carefully, prescribed my medications, and addressed something that had previously been dismissed elsewhere. It was reassuring to finally feel heard and taken seriously.nnI was also seen much quicker than expected, and the overall experience was calm and professional.nnThank you for correcting previous mistakes and providing clear, compassionate care when I really needed it.nnI didn’t catch your name at the time, but I believe it may have been Mark Simmons. Thank you for your professionalism, for explaining everything clearly, and for prescribing the right medication and making sure I left feeling reassured.
I had an extremely poor experience at Good Hope Hospital yesterday and today. I was sent by my GP with suspected appendicitis and spent hours in A&E in severe pain before being moved to a Bay Area. At no point did I feel that anyone took me seriously. I expected to be admitted to SAU, but I was told there was no space that evening and was simply given painkillers with instructions to return the next morning at 8:00.nnWhen I returned, I spent hours in pain waiting for blood test results while repeatedly asking for additional pain relief. During that time, no scans or tests were carried out. Only once the blood results came back did they perform a CT scan, which thankfully showed no issues. While I am relieved that nothing required surgery, I still have no answers for the severe pain I am experiencing. I was sent home with more painkillers and a letter for my GP to request further tests, which could have been arranged at the hospital.nnI am still in pain and have no idea why or what to do to help it. The advice I was given was simply to take the painkillers and, if the pain continues, come back or speak to my GP. I feel like I am being passed back and forth with no real support or answers. Based on my experience, I honestly think the hospital should be called No Hope rather than Good Hope. This has left me extremely unhappy and frustrated.
Communication between departments is shocking. Arrived at A&E and got sent to minors to be told by the doctor that I needed a brain scan. After a 3hr wait I asked how long the waiting time was to be told I had to go back on a waiting list to see an ED doctor. Waited another 1.5hrs to be told waiting time was 6/7hrs. Staff were pleasant otherwise this would be a 1 star review
