Story

GIO RISTORANTE is the younger sister to the long established GIORGIO RISTORANTE on Portland Street. It is a lively setting based in the centre of Manchester on Lower Mosley Street, perfectly situated close to THE BRIDGEWATER HALL. Gio Ristorante has been operating since 6th September 1996 coinciding with the opening of the Bridgewater Hall and has been successfully trading and accommodating all their clientele ever since.

Gio is also patronized by the many MANCHESTER CENTRAL (GMEX) exhibitors and visitors, along with nearby PALACE (Oxford Rd) and Manchester OPERA HOUSE (Quay St) theatre goers. It is also frequented by guests staying at one of the many hotels nearby such as THE MIDLAND (directly opposite), THE RADISSON EDWARDIAN, THE PREMIER INN, THE JURY INN and many, many more.

Gio’s vast menu with its wide and varied choice of freshly prepared modern and classic Italian dishes, along with a variety of pizzas made and baked in the traditional Napolitan way, offers something irresistible for everyone.

Great value PRE-THEATRE/CONCERT and special FIXED PRICE MENUS are also available (please see the menu page for details).

As fans of Italy and Italian food, it seemed fitting to book Gio's for my partners birthday. We arrived on time and were taken to a lovely table in the corner with a window. The menu choice was varied, and I opted for a steak and my partner the spaghetti meatballs. The food was superb and not in the English sense of an Italian but in the Italian sense of an Italian. My partner declared it was the best Italian she'd eaten since we were in Taormina Sicily last year. The owner was all about the details, and the customer service was absolutely on point. I can't recommend this restaurant enough, the atmosphere was buzzing, the food was superb and the customer service was welcoming. It felt like a small family restaurant in the hills of Sicily. Thanks to Thermios and the team for a wonderful experience.
Great food, brilliant staff! Lovely wine and the owner Theme not sure if I’ve spelt it right was brilliant, we ate at a busy evening session but the atmosphere was great! Lemon cello on the house to finish is a lovely touch, will definitely be going again!Food: 5/5
Just enjoyed a delicious meal this evening at the restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday. The service was very good. We were looked after by 2 attentive waiters and were given an ice cream on the house as they knew we were there for a birthday. Lovely evening. Thank you very much.Food: 5/5
Second time eaten here, the garlic bread with tomato is superb, two of us had Cannelloni which was fantastic all washed down with a nice bottle of wineFood: 5/5
We had a trip to Manchester museum and followed it with a really good meal here. Very impressed, food was very very good. Service excellent, staff all very friendly and a really good ambience. Couldn't have been bettered. Great day. We are definitely returning.Food: 5/5
Lovely Italian place. Great food and atmosphere. All the staff and I presume the owner was amazing. Randel was a cut above the rest and gave exceptional service! Lovely birthday meal for our friend. Amazing place for helping with gluten free options too. Gracie all. Dietary restrictions: Plenty of options for gluten free and extremely helpful!
Good - homely - Italian food, great service, but you could feel the stress due to being busy. I had ravioli: the size was perfect. We ordered a salad which complimented the otherwise heavy meal. And the red wine I had was good as well. We also had chicken, which was juicy, and calamari, which was great and fresh. I did not like the water much, but that won’t have me avoiding this place in the future.
Nice easy accessible restaurant with friendly staff with good customer service. We did not have a reservation but they were happy to accommodate. The restaurant offers a pre theatre special menu where you can choose from a good range of dishes currently at a price of £22.50 for 2. Ordering from the A la Carte menu can be expensive and have eaten better food for less. The pate starter was delicious. The garlic bread and pizza was fresh however the ribs were on the tough side.
We came in on Saturday and it was great : special thank you to the lovely blonde waitress sorry, didn’t get your name! who was super helpful and kind when my dad was having some trouble with his blood sugars as a diabetic, we appreciated it a lot. Would 10/10 recommend!Food: 5/5
Stumbled across this place randomly, the Manager was fantastic and the staff were equally as brilliant. Personable service plus fantastic food! We also got a free Prosecco & Garlic bread for a proven graduation. Not expected but it was delicious! Great quality!
