We stayed in our Motorhome with Britstops. Beautiful old pub. We had a terrific meal. Very different. Try the Braised pig cheek starter it was excellent. Very friendly helpful staff and locals. In some places the locals can be a bit clicky but not here ! Very enjoyable evening. We thoroughly recommend this smashing hostelry. Make sure you say hi to Turbo the Terrapin !

Great Inn! Loved the pub, authentic interior and friendly people. My room was awesome. Where else do you find a beautiful old four poster bed next to a luxurious bathroom with multi-function shower. In the restaurant, go for the lambs braise. Amazing!

We visited as a family and found that the reviews here both best and worst are true. The room was nice and very clean but the heating was very poor making the room quite cold. Aside from that though I would think you would be hard pressed to get a better room for the price locally. The pub is situated about a mile and a bit from the next nearest pub and Falls which make for a nice few hours out. Randomly nowhere likes to serve food round here and all the pubs were serving very limited menus or not at all until 6pm. Luckily the garage nextdoor to the George has sandwiches etc. The pub itself is really contained to a very small area with 3 tables in it and a few tall bar stools. After that the whole area which is extensive has been reserved for dining. This was probably my first issue with the place when we were told we couldn't sit with our drinks in the empty 3/4 of the pub we must cram in to the small bar area. Luckily there was one of the little tables free, others weren't so lucky and in a room with maybe 8 or 9 empty 4 seater+ tables it was standing room only. Crazy!!! That said we met some lovely people and the landlord or whoever was nice and a typical Yorkshireman - Very blunt, and seemingly uptight and humourless. We found though like all Yorkshireman that once you scratch the surface though it's just how they are, and you just have to get used to the dry wit. I think this is why this place has some bad reviews that will have some truth to them when people have taken things the wrong way. They do need to sort out the seating and to be honest the food I found to be overpriced and a bit to much style over substance. £13 for a thai curry where you get not much more than a couple of egg cups of rice I found expensive and it wasn't particularly good either. Not bad at all but not 13 pounds worth by any stretch. The place is a traditional pub yet it is serving food like they are trying to be a high end bar, big plates with very little on them. All in all we had a nice time but probably would not go back. Unless you use taxis or drive you are stuck in a super compact bar area with nowhere to go but bed if it's dull. There is no background music and on first sitting down we contemplated going back to the room. It did liven up as the ale flowed but it would be very dull on a quiet evening. Overall it's worth staying here but it could be so much better with very little alterations. I wouldn't recommend eating there and I would say have a backup plan for the evening.
