After reading some of the negative reviews I was a little apprehensive about eating at the George but the other local was fully booked and we didn't fancy driving far so took a chance. Needn't have worried; the food and service were fine. Waitress/bar staff was very pleasant and made us feel welcome. The interior is tired and could do with refreshing but it didn't spoil the meal. I am dairy intolerant and discussed the menu options with the waitress who demonstrated a flexible approach to accommodating my needs. We are quite fussy about the quality of the food we eat and honestly could not find any fault with our meals. I had chicken curry and my other half had hunters chicken. It is a limited menu and very much pub grub but nicely done. We would go again.
We were made to feel very welcome, the food was delicious and well cooked. The only downside was only being open 4 days a week, otherwise we would definitely have gone there more than we did.
The pub: It is a lovely building with amazing dining rooms. So no reason to complain here.nnWhen we have been there, we have been attended by an elderly lady. With all due respect, she should not work any more. Not only, that she struggeled to remember the order, she also had difficulties to carry the dishes. She did not serve, what we had ordered. She later invoiced the wrong dishes as well and had problems to agree the difference. This is sad but not how I enjoy dinner.nnThe food was less than appropriate. The vegetables that came with my pie where absolutely overkooked, the only good thing in my pie was the gravy, the pie itself was not good at all.

My partner had - amongst others - fries. Soft, lukewarm and oily.
Pub was lovely...room was nice...tv not working and no Internet in the room...it was suggested we could watch netflix on our phones...wasnt impressed...food was nice apart from the pudding...apple crumble...this turned out to be a ramekin filled with jarred apple sauce with a crushed digestive on the top...mind blown...wont be staying again...shame really
We booked for a single night on our way north. What a delight - a lovely characterful Inn with perfect, attentive hosts and wonderful food. Couldn’t have asked for better.
