Not good at all. Very average food and old looking place, once a classy restaurant that could not keep up with the time change. They charge £3,5 for the chopped onions, ingredients are not of good quality also. There are many other better options in the area for the same price range.
Service is slow, surprisingly spicing is light for Indian cuisine. Lemon pickle is very good, though I suspect it's not homemade. Both chicken dishes where over cooked resulting in rubbery texture. I cannot recommend this restaurant.
We visited to celebrate our anniversary on Sunday in 12 to 1.30pm slot. We arrived a little late but they were very accommodating and didn't mind. We opted for the unlimited veggie chaat and chai menu for £15pp. My wife loved every bit of the chaats as she loves Indian food! There was a good variety of chaats, the quantity was enough for both of us neither too much nor too less, so we didn't waste any bit of food plus it was so tasty too. The tea tasted just like it does in india. The main course Chola bhatura was a little more for us but we didn't mind finishing it, it was yumm!! The service was great! It was very quite when we visited, there was only one other group. Our waiter was always nearby, brought out the chaat in a good timely order and didn't rush us in finishing our meals. He also left a gap between the chaats and the main course this may not always be possible if they're busy I imagine Ambience wise they can make the place a little more bright and fresh. It is the best Indian restaurant in London my wife said she has been so far and she is very picky! Area of improvement- to keep the taste and introduce vegan equivalents in the veggie chaat options.
The restaurant gets quite packed on a week day evening filled with local office diner's normally indicating a good and/or consistent dining experience. However having reserved a table and re-confirming on the morning if booking they failed to locate our reservation and seat is quickly. The decor is in desperate need of tlc as is the service and training of the wait staff. The food was mediocre at best and in my opinion overpriced compared to local options. One of our dining guests had been to the restaurant several times before and was also disappointed with their evening. Unsure if the restaurant is under new management or they have experienced a turnover in wait and kitchen staff.
Had mouthwatering yummy chat dishes. The unlimited chai and chat menu is too good. We were too full but the food was absolutely tasty to leave it. Highly recommended!
Nice Indian restaurant, decor seems quit posh, food is a bit expensive but it is central London after all. Service is as expected. Would recommend to give it a try.
Food was really good , especially the garlic naan and the paneer. however service was too slow and the waiter seemed to be in a bad mood Still worth a visit :
The food is decent, but that's about it really. It's overpriced generally speaking. Curry price range around £20, on its own. Service isn't particularly great. I do find the name Gaylord intriguing so 3 stars otherwise I would have given it 2.
It's fortunate that the food was good, because the service really was poor compared to a cheapo Brick Lane Indian, let alone a premium restaurant. Problems we encountered: 1 Our booking was 'lost in the system', we ended up waiting 45 minutes for a table. They kept telling us to wait 5 or 10 minutes, standing next to the entrance. If its a long wait, tell us! We could have gone for a drink round the corner. 2 Lack of attentiveness. We had one food menu between 3 people. We had to find the pile of menu's ourselves. 3 We had to hassle them to acknowledge what poor service we had. Eventually we got free drinks, but only after complaining. On a good note, the food was a couple of notches above the standard Indian fayer. The Chicken curry I had was one of the best I've tasted. Good cuts of meat.
I've been meaning to visit one of the oldest Indian restaurants in London! Ever since my dad told me he used to dine there in the 70's. I honestly can't explain how brilliant the service was and how wonderful the food tasted last night. I can't wait to go back there again. Plus their paintings are stunning! I don't listen to reviews, I make my own assumptions.
