No other airport comes even close to the level of whimsical failures at Gatwick. Let's start at arrival by plane to the northern terminal. I was once stuck between the plane and the airport because no one was there to open the door. Slow forward to passport control via the bridge that walks you over the planes. Yes. This unique 10 minute experience is priceless. E passport gates: half of them don't even run... Of the ones that run, half of them don't work... Then you're speaking with staff, who to their credit are actually nice (credit where it's due)... I gave up on the carousels, so let's move on. There's a train for the train, which is always slow due to engineering works. Then you take a late train and you're free. By that time you spent more time at the airport than the flight. So much fun. The other side of the journey is not bad... And by not bad, I mean it's awful. You arrive at the airport, say by train, and immediately it's tight. You get a sense of pride when you beat the other passengers to the turnstiles. After two milliseconds of glory, you're dealing with the hassle for departures. Train, stairs, this and that, you're at the boarding pass checkpoint. Go through that, and you see the very understaffed security checkpoint. Lovely staff tell you about their days. Any liquids, beer, wine, gin, vodka? Yes, please, but no. Then you go through all the liquids you can imagine in the shops. And off you go to wait.... Delayed flights... Oh, it's gate 112. Over the entire airport and you're good to go. Gatwick Airport, I love you. Joking aside, I'm really pleased how much it's improved over the years, and how much better it's getting despite huge volume.

Employees do not give correct advise on one simple question: what is at this moment the quickest way to get to Victoria Station (including the Gatwick express), some just point at the screen and tell you to figure it out yourself, happened to me now. I am still waiting. Next time I trust Google maps - no more questions

Heathrow's lesser sibling in so many ways. Garwick will get you to your plane but it is economy all the way. Even the club lounge is stripped down. The help is rude. They are working in an airport lounge. They could not get a gig in a regular lounge.... It is missing the posh duty free shops most airport house. You will not find Hermes, Chanel or the other high end boutiques here. On the up side, you will save some money. You do not need to spend a lot of time here. Also noticed that the prices did not really reflect any savings from the US shops. Just buy the items in the US. Not sure about prices in the airport versus the high street shop priced.

Great experience! Super-fast check-in (Norwegian) and security also superfast (very Hugh level of automation. Only drawback - so you really need drag all guests via 1 kilometer of taxfree to sell alcohol, tobacco etc!? We dont have enought of problem from that in society!? Btw - minor funny detail. Check-in kiosk ask me to select Airlines when and only One option is available 🙄

Terrible experience here. Literally waited hours and I mean hours to check in. Then by the time we checked in we were hurried along to board the plane, made to run to boarding by staff! No apology from anyone, totally disorganised. The airport it self, is ok. Good shops, cafés etc.
