Tractor ride around the island available and very interesting. Local people telling their history at the heritage centre. Church is closed and in a poor state. We had a very enjoyable afternoon but now closed for the season.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNo
Very interesting little museum, of a very remote village, island and lifestyle that has nearly disappeared. You can only visit Foulness Island on advertised dates, as it's MoD land.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Well worth a visit. The tractor ride was really good with really informative commentary. The visit was finished nicely by tea and cake in the garden.Visited onWeekendWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNo
The centre opens once a month and it's run by volunteers. It generates great interest as it's the only way to see Foulness Island. There's a tractor tour with a local farmer who knows the local history and beauty spots. The area is flat and vast. The cafe is well organized with outside seating and the museum is really interesting. I particularly found the accounts of people caught in the 1953 floods quite moving. All in all it's definitely worth seeing and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
Fascinating insight into the past and present communities within this unusual environment. Recommend the Tractor tour to see more as you aren't allowed to explore under your own steam
Having visited the island many times as a young lad to see my grandparents, it was lovely to visit the heritage centre and learn about the history of the island and its residents. Lots of artifacts to see and stories to read. Loved the tractor ride round the island too. You can't just visit without booking in at the security gate well before your trip and its only open on the first Sunday of the month between April and October
Very interesting visit. Lots of local history. Would be nice to be freer to wander around Churches but worth the trip. Sandwiches were cheap but only Ok.
If you're a fan of places with sixties Cold War atmosphere - or just of unusual places - then I cannot recommend this highly enough. Staff all locals very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Excellent place to visit.Visited onWeekendWait time10–30 minReservation recommendedYes
