in reply to Sam Murphis. We apologize if you feel your experience with fortress windows wasn't satisfactory, although we feel that the majority of your comments are unjust. With regards to the survey, our MTC compliant surveyor had tried on numerous occasions to contact you and left many voicemail's to arrange a convenient time to survey the roof line at the rear of your property but to no avail! This would explain the length of time between agreed sale and survey taking place. Due to the problem with contacting you we had no choice than to survey next door as this job was signed up with both parties to ensure a cheaper quote. If you felt at the time of sale or within the 14 day cooling off period that you where not happy with the quote or you felt it was too expensive then you would have been well within your rights to terminate the contract. As this was arranged for both properties (semi detached ) to be installed at the same time to reduce cost we proceeded with the survey , the rear of your property is obstructed by a glass roof therefore preventing the surveyor from obtaining measurements with standard surveying equipment but as our surveyor has over 20 years experience in this field it was not a difficulty to replicate the measurements for your fascias from the adjoining property thus preventing the need to enter your property without permission as we could not contact you . The reason we had leased with your neighbour was because of our difficulty to communicate with you, we apologize if this was not to your satisfaction but our actions were taken in view that you had a good relationship with your neighbour. the actual installation was correct and fit for purpose, with regards to the air vents (disc vents) that was to be installed in your soffit , the nature of these vents is to prevent condensation in the loft space where a closed cavity is used in the construction of the house , when the existing fascia boards and soffits where removed it was revealed that your cavity was not closed and therefore did not require these to be fitted . we had spoke to you and was asked to contact your husband / partner regarding this matter where our installations manager explained that these where not needed but we would happily install them if you so wished , at the time of this conversation you were also advised that if we did install the vents then they would be difficult to clean as they were directly above the glass roof conservatory , we was told you would get back to us but never did we then presumed our advice was taken hence they were never installed . if you still require the vents to be installed , we will be more than happy to re-visit the property and install them for you . I feel we do however owe you an apology with regards to the small amount of debris left in your garden after the installation , as you can appreciate this is not a clean job in any way when we remove the old fascias and gutters from a property of approximately 50 years in age , but there is no excuse for screws etc being left behind , our fitters are good fitters who take pride in their work and have been part of our team for some time now (and still are ) and they have been informed of this issue although this is totally out of character and a very unusual occurrence . If you still feel that you are not happy with this reply or of any part of the installation please do come and see us so we can resolve any issues, we pride our self on being a friendly approachable company and our aim is customer satisfaction. Terrible company. They told me that they would have scaffolding across the back to bridge over the conservatory roof and the cost was included in the quote. Instead when the work started they decided to not bother using it and took shortcuts instead. They used a couple of ladders and clambered on top of the conservatory roof. Basically they charged me for scaffolding that was never used. When I complained they offered a partial refund of the scaffolding. When the work was finished they’d left debris, screws and nails all over the conservatory roof. So I rang up and they came back to “clean up”, which consisted of them simply brushing all the rubbish down from the roof into the conservatory gutter. They state on their website “We offer unrivalled customer care”, awful customer care. Also they “Offer an outstanding service throughout”, from my experience it was terrible service throughout. “Fortress windows prides itself on giving its customers an unrivalled combination of exceptional value for money.” In addition they talk about “honest prices” which is all absolute nonsense. Dishonest overpriced, they were perfectly to charge me for something that was never used. The honest thing to do would be to refund me the full amount not a partial refund and then keep the rest of the money. They were also happy to charge hundreds and hundreds of pounds for 7 hours work and refuse to give me a breakdown of the final price when I queried it. They didn’t even bother to send me an invoice, which should list everything on there. Considered taking it further action but decided to wash my hands of it. NOT recommended! Avoid this company
