Without doubt the best pub food I've had in Plymouth. I had the Mackerel Pate with warm bread and onion chutney as a starter which was a good size, presented beautifully and tasted fantastic. For main I had the tray baked short crust steak and ale pie with creamy mash and seasonal vegetables with gravy, and I went for the stilton extra, and oh my god, the portion was generous and a taste to die for. My partner only managed half until I said to try the separate pot of gravy, at which point she started again. Would loved to have tried the deserts but all but had one carried out as it was. Absolutely fantastic selection of beers, ciders, wines and spirits. The landlady is absolutely lovely and works as hard if not harder than anyone. I'm so sorry I didn't take pics of the food but when it arrived I just dived in and couldn't stop. Went on a Monday night expecting it to be quiet, not at all when we arrived it was almost full. You can see from my pics it was quite late when I took them and the pub had thinned out. Cannot recommend highly enough. If you like really good, home cooked, well presented fresh food then this is a must. Will be back in the next couple of days and cannot wait. Highly recommended... Back again, sorry I went for just the main but will remember to take pics and post this time. Most excellent
Went there today for lunch. I was told it was like a village pub but on the Barbican. Well the door to this pub gave you a sense of the history. The staff were helpful and very friendly. The pub decor was truly fabulous. The food was a delight and very good value for money. They also welcome dogs . I'm coming back soon and bringing my friends.
Amazing little pub / restaurant hidden away between the marina and battery. Good selection of beers and a quite phenomenal selections of whisky and spirits. Lovely menu to choose from including menu for your dogs, curated by their resident k9 guru. I gad the excellent king Prawns and roe on scallops, followed by the sea food gumbo, which was equally amazing.
This is a really beautiful place to go to. Located in the heart of the barbican, this pub is the place to go. A vast selection of drinks which are expertly poured. There is attention paid to every single pint - my kind of pub! The bar staff are lovely too, big thanks to Ruben for making us feel so welcome. Big love fisherman's, we will be back soon!
Had my first meal at the pub with my partner. It was a lovely friendly pub with the staff pleasant and willing to help with anything you require. I had a lovely meal of chicken stack and sticky toffee pudding both of which was lovely to have. Sticky toffee pudding was to die for and you got plenty of it. Was a lovely evening. Drinks were lovely too and the price of the meal for two of us was really reasonable. The atmosphere was lovely and very Christmasy. The staff had to deal with a large group of loud men and they handled the situation very well. Would highly recommend.
Don't go by location this is an excellent destination. Food was great and the dog dinner was gobbled up with speed. Good beer and a selection of gins that almost boggles the mind.
The BEST sunday roast you will get, lovely and friendly independent pub hidden away just off the Barbican, managed to squeeze us in on an already full order book Thank you Will defiantly be booking ahead when in Plymouth again.
Wow! This was a great pub, with a lovely feel. The type of place you could quite easily make a local if you lived nearby. Four of us had had a meal and drink. Everyone enjoyed their food. The gammon steak I had was the biggest and best tasting I've ever had and the pint of Mr Jones ale was very good as well. The four stars was due to the slightly slow service, but I could live with that. Superb value for money and I would highly recommend.
The Phoenix Rises! A while back, I used to go frequently to The Fisherman's when it was under previous ownership and thoroughly enjoyed my visits. Sadly it shut rather suddenly and I was not tempted back under the subsequent managements. Hearing good reports recently, I decided to give it a try... and very glad we did! Buzzing pub with a lively, warm, welcoming atmosphere. Straight forward menu but all the dishes we had were good. Good taps, great service. Recommended and will visit again!
Fab lunch with friends. Food was excellent and value for money. Lovely atmosphere not to noisy you could hold conversation easily. First class service from the team. Thanks won't be long before we return .. Highly recommended... but keep it a secret..
