Bass paradise The beer not the fish served straight from the barrel on the back fitting. Whenever I am in Plymouth I make sure to visit the Dolphin, excellent ale and a very nice atmosphere.
Real ale pub, full of old characters to match the interior. Full on a Thursday night. May not be for everyone. Good pint, friendly staff. I will return when I'm back in the area
This is a great pub for ale, a real traditional boozer, they have 7 ales tapped straight from the barrel, which I find very pleasing. The selection of ale means there’s something for everyone, and I’ve enjoyed many a good pint here.
The 'atmosphere' makes a pub, and the dolphin has the feel of a cold, damp ship with the only warmth coming from the practising sea chanty band that bless the pub every so often. Still, the warmth of the sea chanties couldn't prepare us for the barmaids' faces upon our arrival, which welcomed us with a mix of distain and annoyance. With a leaky ceiling, clinically bright bulbs, and artwork detailing out of date events, the famous dolphin hotel didn't have the awe that it legend portrayed. The fact is that there are better pubs on the Barbican. With some TLC, this pub could reclaim its legend. I hope it does.
Well decided to pop in to one of my all time favourite pub when I use to live in Plymouth. Was still early 6pm coal fire not looking healthy almost out ,to my surprise the landlord, manager, boss man decided to strip the lovely looking Christmas tree down and when he finished that started on all the rest of Dec's It was Only the 28th Dec.what about NYE .So I asked him and his reply was ,when was you in here last referring to that I'm not a local. Where did he get his management skills from ,know wounder pubs are closing so quick with idiots like him running there pubs.
Quintessential pub experience. The locals and bar girls really made us feel welcome. If you're in Plymouth definitely visit the dolphin. Plenty of local and international beers and ales to try. Thank you Dolphin you were a massive highlight of our trip.
In a city full of somebodies, this is a rare pub. It has character. Something you don't find often in the inner cities. It is a spit and sawdust kind of pub, has a good feel with true locals at the helm. A good selection of beers and drinks for any person. The odd local celebrity comes in from time to time, for instance Birdman. look him up for more info. This place is a little gem.
Another treasure of a pub, atmosphere leaks from the walls. Great selection of ales and ciders. You can readily while away the hours here and there is always a friendly face ready for a chat.
Great old fashioned pub. Friendly, no pretentions, great ales, especially the Jail Ale, all drawn by gravity straight from the cask. Not had a draught Bass for years. Didn't disappoint. I'll be back!
Very busy pub on a Friday night, quick service though and some ales on offer which you could try a sample first. I had Atlantic which was well kept and sat outside watching the world go by. A band was setting up so clearly supports local events and entertainment. Plenty of choice where to drink but it is an attractive little pub.
