We visited and were served by Francheska who was absolutely lovely throughout the whole meal and helped us with anything we asked! We've been loads now and have never had a bad experience, food is always incredible and service is brilliant! Will ofcourse be back again!Food: 5/5
Finally, a place that actually knows how to make burgers and do fried chicken. Great set of combinations on the menu that get your sleeves rolled up and in for some big yummy bites. Service was a bit sparse, but possibly that could be due to the fact that we came in close to 8:30 on a Sunday evening. Only item missing was being asked how I wanted my burger cooked as I do prefer mine on the rarer side. However, will be back again when in the area
Amazing burgers and loved the trash browns! Almost walked past the entrance as its just a doorway and stairs down, but so pleased we didn't. Would highly recommend and the price is also reasonable. Polite and friendly staff. We'll definitely come back next time we're up this way.Food: 5/5
Great atmosphere, food was lovely and big portions. Only issue was the service as people were being seated after us and being served before us but this was quickly resolved by staff. Dessert was lovely and cocktails quirky!Food: 5/5
I read the reviews for this place that raved about how fantastic the burgers were so we decided to give it a go. The actual place is really cool, I really liked the basement setting. The food was ok, I had a chicken burger. The let down for me was the noise, it was too loud and it was difficult for us to hear each other it was Friday night so likely because it's one of their busier times, but if you're sensitive to sound, it's worth knowing. When it came to getting the bill, it was a little difficult, but again could be because they were busy.
This was my 3rd visit to the Fat Hippo and my second to the Newcastle venue. I really like the Fat Hippo and always try the specials. Staff are always friendly and very quick. Let's be honest it's Newcastle, and geordies are awesome. I had the beefleburger which was halloween special and for the beetlejeuse movie. The burger was lovely as always. I was a little disappointed with the fries, which were a little cold and dry like they had been sitting a while, so I didn't finish the fries. Not the usual, I expect. My friend had the onion rings, which were bigger than the burgers. Hats off to whoever made these, I was impressed. Would have loved to see the original onion. My one major suggestion for this restaurant would be the seating. Unless you're sitting on the back wall long sofa, the seating is not the most comfortable. Am I only 5 foot, and the stools are no good for vertically challenged people ha ha ha. Your legs dangle, and you just can't eat in comfort. Normally, I would ask to sit at a lower table and chairs, but the place was really busy. It didn't spoil my visit and would go again, but seating could definitely be upgraded.
The food was pretty good but the dumb menu ruins this place. If you wanted to order just a burger and chips it's fine. We'd wanted to order a few sides but the menu makes this weirdly difficult. Your burger comes with a free side which is limited to just plain chips. So if you wanted some fancy ones you'd have to buy them separately and end up with two portions. There's even deals for a main and starter but again this is limited to the most basic potato dishes. On the positives this probably helped us spend less money as we shared a starters and just got a burger and simple fries rather than the usual multiple starters and sides. Drinks were just over-priced hipster beers that weren't even chilled. Staff seem like they'd rather hide out of the way flirting with each other than deal with customers. If you ever got their attention they made you feel like you were a burden. This place was probably good years back but there are so many burger places these days that are miles better than here. There are a few vegan options though so a bonus start for that.
Amazing place. Nice atmosphere indoors, food was quick and absolutely delicious. Amazing taste, really well cooked, and very filling. Vegetarian options: Several items are, or can be made vegetarian
Callum was outstanding. My wife is lactose intolerant and eating out usually is a proper chew on. She will resort to ordering from the vegan menu for ease which is disappointing for a meat eater. Callum made her feel as though she was catered for and provided all the information needed to allow her to order from the standard menu with confidence. He was attentive and friendly. Food was special as it always is. Best place for burgers in Newcastle by a mile. Will definitely be back soon. Dietary restrictions: The wife’s lactose intolerance wasn’t a problem. Very well catered for.
Great place for gluten free! I have a gluten allergy and this place caters very well, being able to have the majority of the burgers just with a gluten free bun! And the food is AMAZING! The place is unique and had a great atmosphere and vibe. Dietary restrictions: Caters fantastically for gluten allergies
